To be honest, I was personally quite excited when it was initially announced. I was a huge fan of the Outbreak gamemode in Rainbow Six: Siege during Operation Chimera and really wanted to see more. However, as we started to see gameplay of Quarantine/Extraction however… all my excitement for it immediately died. This game that was being shown to me was just an asset flip of the Outbreak gamemode I had played years ago, but with awkward pacing, poorly thought-out design and mechanics, and none of the personality that the Outbreak mode had upon its release. It short, it looked uninspired and soulless. All that said though, I was itching for another good PvE game to play with my buddies, and was planning to pick it up with them on launch until we all saw the asking price. $60 USD for a game that uses a lot of the same assets and gameplay mechanics as a much cheaper game from 2015, with a repetitive gameplay-loop and no creative charm. I was hoping we’d see another version of Outbreak, like we were promised, not a shitty and shambled together version of GTFO (a much better co-op game with a more unique setting and a whole lot more character. Cheaper, too.)

It's very doable, but you need to know what you're doing from the get-go
The approach is different too
Online, you usually can't repurpose existing buildings due to server rules (as it messes with zombie and loot spawns)

So you need to build from scratch, and at some distance from towns (usually 150-200m from edge minimum) due to reset zones. Basically, town gets "reset" by admin so that loot respawns, including cars, which you badly need for engines/batteries.
There is logic to it, when you need to accommodate couple dozen people, you don't want good points of interest out of action for everyone because some goblin slapped a claim block on the roof
When you play solo or just with another couple of people though, it's perfectly fine
Another common PvE rule is no building on roads
That makes perfect sense too, seeing as major PoIs are connected with roads and vehicles are an absolute must
Because 7DtD's terrain generation and vehicle handling are... peculiar
