Ive never heard of one leaking
well im quite happy with mine so i dont have any problems rn
well cheap ones do leak but yeah this one is not the case
Air cooler were getting to big, and causeing motherboards to taco, the last big air cooler I bought (Personal Rigs) was a Zalman 9900, back then they were solid copper, no crappy aluminum like today. I still use like 212 evo coolers for client builds though.
client builds? you own a shop or something?
New air cooler tech is popping up.. but coolers are one of those things that progress at a snails pace
I forgot the name of the example i was gonna use now
Ice giant. Feels like the only real revalation in are cooling in years
this was the best one I ever used. https://www.pcegaming.com/images_blog/X58-SLI-Zalman-9900-cnps.JPG
all solid copper, no aluminum
Shame there is no way to see how that compares to modern cpus
Im not familar with cpus of that era but im guessing they didnt draw much
Yeah, well... I did purchase one for a 6600k build, but they changed the cooler dramatically using the same part number, the new one is piece of garbage. if you could find an original from 2009 it would be nice, but I will say I replaced that with an H50 which performed much better. My little brother may have still that one, but we don't talk anymore soo... I will never know.
here's the newer version, pic is a bit blurry. https://www.pcegaming.com/images_blog/zalman-9900-new.JPG
gtx280? damn you must be old
the first gpu i bought was a Radeon 9200 SE
285 FTW actually, but I'm not old, I'm only 49
yeah i didnt mean that kind of old, most people here are around 16-25 you see, it's always nice to see older people be gamers
Kool, yeah my generation created the technology to make games. The first video game was created when I was 7 or 8 years old.
actually i'm wrong is created a month before I was born
yeah i was going to say "damn you witnessed it all huh"
so how did you get into computers
Damn pong was created in 1972
I started playing ATARI in the early 80's, I got a Commodore 64 in like 1985 I think, I ended up trading it for a skateboard to my friend, He traded it for a Tandy something that talked to you, so I was like WHOA! then pretty much everything started to utilize computers at that point, I was intrigued by it.
I really got in to more in the late 90's by 1998 I was using PC to record my guitar, as I was using a 4-track cassette recorder before that
Then by 99 I was building websites, and created voice chat apps, by 2003/4 I had developed a Video Chat app.
Technology is used for many things some are good and some bad
Has anyone tried cleaning motherboards and GPUs etc.. with WD-40 contact cleaner?
There is a guy on Youtube that liberally sprays down hardware with a product called Australian Export Multi-Purpose Spray and lets it dry. I'm thinking the WD-40 Contact Cleaner is similar to this.
Yeah it's pretty kool, but I already have a Nintendo Switch
I would never play games on a hand held anyway
It's just not PC gaming.
Case and psu came in. Now for the rest!
Hurray!
Nice!
I just want to play Destiny 2 when I'm away from home honestly
And it'll be a while before they allow games with battleye to work with the steamdeck
There were games before that
Sure not as widespread as pong
It's not the first game
or you could stream pc games from your pc to your phone
like what steam play does
used it a couple of times and its pretty cool
really, i did not know there were video games before that.
I can barely read my text messages. lol..
I hate cell phones
since late 40s but they were experimental and not widespread
didnt become before the first console arrived, the Odyssey
So you were born when they become widespread but not when they were begun
Well I know there were electronic games, but actual video games?
oscilloscope
okay I agree.
20 years before Pong so a bit of a precursor
as if Pong wasnt primitive enough 😛
and this is earliest, 1947
We even had these weird electronic handheld mechanical games in the 70's, they were like LEDs on mechanics. You feel the vibrations from it. I remember Bowling very specifically
We had these types of games available before Atari & ColecoVision https://www.pinterest.com/pin/91197961178877614/
I like that stuff, that's very interesting
Yeah, old wwii era radar equipment
hence why it could not be widespread since it didnt have consumer hardware
before arcades and consoles
And not to mention the cost not affordable to an average person
yeah
A lot of prototype stuff
then atari copied one of Magnavox ping pong games
and called it Pong
they got sued but settled
Magnavox Odyssey was first consumer platform that most people could buy
in 1972
I remember VR from the early 90's people think it's new. I guess it was out even in the 70's
its just when it tries becoming mainstream
though nintendo failed pretty hard on that
Yeah it came and went, then came back
They VR games at the state fair in the 90's was very pricy so I never did it, in fact I was kind of scared of it. the bungy cord setup and all, like in the movie Lawn Mower Man
you would spin around on that gyro, I was like F that man
lol
i tried VR on a rollercoaster
pretty fun
ultimate motion sickness test, but i very rarely get motion sickness
Ohh yeah we did cinema like VR, more like a 3D movie, it moved, that was kool
like a simulator
I won't get sick, but I might pass out.
lol
Im gifted with a complete lack of motion sickness
Same pretty much
Hey what's the difference between Corsair vengeance and Kingston fury ram? Let's say if we were to test the exact same, Cl16 3200Hz, Which one would do better and why? Is it something about clock speeds?
subtimings and the memory modules
and the ranks
the clock speed is the same (1600 MHz)
as already mentioned memory has much more involved than just the primary timing and base clock
but as an idea corsair vengeance is shit so get the fury
What do you think about mechanical keyboards Deco?
eh I mean like, depends what you're asking
if you mean what do I think about them as a generic they're fine ig, but applies to most things
I got 2 mechincal keyboards and so far i really like the Keychron 97% mech keyboard
I thought you would've had a nice typing mech keyboard for software programing
eh not so much
with keyboards specifically the choice if it's mechanical or not is kinda, not as important as people think
the key switches themselves are way more important to consider for overall typing/sound/input key delay etc
Yeah exactly
But since i bought mech keyboard, every other gaming keyboard feels bad/cheap/wrong
The mech gaming keyboard themselfs are also over priced asf
don't get me wrong, the keyboard itself does matter, but the thing with developing software is, comfort is pretty easy to achieve with most
it's pretty rare you'll come across a keyboard you arent comfortable with for high WPM typing than not, even on budget brands it has to be pretty bad for you not to use it
My office had those 5 euro dell keyboards... drove me absolutely nuts with the feel, noise and just plastic everywhere
Was not comfortable at all
yeahh that makes sense
here we don't use that mantra our equipment is high end to top of the line (not that I'd be able to do my job effectively if it wasn't), my keyboard considerations differ from most I suppose
my g14 is a dream to type with and easily smokes my main keyboard, but my main rig is used for other things like games, maybe it was because I took games to a competitive manner for so long who knows but input timings for keys and passing between keys are big factors I consider before using one
my gx brown switches are great for both so I don't plan on switching them anytime soon
Ohh alright nice
Yeah the GX switches are way better than the galteron ( can't remember the name) they are not quiet at all
I came from clicky
that in itself was a nightmare for sound
could hear them across rooms
Oh good lord....
I feel bad about my 'noisy' silent switches at the office
pretty sure it got briefly at one point I was typing that fast that the decibel range was nearly half my actual rig
I cannot imagine the actual clicky's sound of the clicky switches lol
which is nuts and means I had to scrap it
yeah never get them
Wtfff???
That is insane 😂
yeah it was pretty bad like
I only type with 2 fingers so my WPM count on the decibel scale will be louder than those using all 10 fingers, my keyboard was louder than the fans on my rig
I play at night often... everyone in my house would hate me if i decided to buy an clicky keyboard lol
😂😂
I type pretty slowly though
I type average speed.. not too fast not too slow
But i mainly use the buttons 'E, R, S, G and Q' lol
For 3D software
No worries just hop in :)

my median wpm is 85~
roughly anyways, depends on my mood
No idea what mine is
low to high 90s relatively common
Very low on mobile
I have an 60% keyboard at home and a 97% keyboard at the office... just when i get used to one i have to switch keyboard layout so i get confused again lol
I only use fullsize
I hate how much space the full size uses
So i got an 60%, but than i hated the tiny size lol
So i went to 97% instead lol
Ah fck phone is at 1% noooo
Mine is at funny number
Hehehe nice
Damn your text size is tint
Really recommend!
takes up less space
all this massive keyboard nonsense
I've been using the small one for 2 years now
So true
while ago on my main rig median wpm
No idea for me, I should try later, but I type pretty slowly despite using all 10
itll be faster than that 8700k
do i look like my name is alder
you arent supposed to say yes
But nah 12700K seems best option
Can just move my current ram over since ddr5 is still expensive
And I think they ironed out some of the linux issues on alder lake by now
Already patched
tell that to all the linux servers
Tell anything to servers since a lot still run XP
dx9
Hm?
probably running on that aswell for xp servers
Yeah

And old java versions
All those darn software engineers

yep but some laptops have bigger keys, just usually forgo numpad
I am interested in doing this, i wanna try linux but i play anti cheat supported games so i need windows
Would you recommend?
Anti cheat depends on developer to enable it or not in the SDK, some has but DICE hasn't
Sure, try it around
Can just try live usb first
Al of my games require anti cheat besides GOW lol
I have it on my old family laptop to test it, i like it so far but lacking the anti cheat software is a big turn off for me :(
Yeah, nothing we can do about it other than ask devs to enable it in the sdk
What does sdk mean?
Software development kit
Ahh cool ty :)
Like DICE could enable it if they wanted to but not a priority for them
That sucks... :I
so that's why i got an update installed today
Are you seriously advertising your patreon here
yes
What is like the best affordable pc setup? As in wanting more than 150fps. I’ve been playing with 40-60fps my whole life and ngl im kinda cracked at wz and battlefield but sometimes fps fucks it up.. any tips on new pc specs? I had a laptop for a while and wanna switch to pc and buy like a ducking good one, or should I build it? No experience tho
Also ping me if you react, thanks
buy a prebuilt pc with a gpu 8GB bare minimum, hopefully above that for next gen high res graphics. also, the quality of monitor is important: size, resolution, refresh rate, and other factors.
16GB bare minimum system ram
Can I dm you quickly?
sure
Got a pc rn
few questions first to answer that
Go for it, you could dm me if you want
Need like help otherwise imma get scammed
1, what games, your decision on games will influence what parts are necessary for adequate performance 2 what resolution are you targeting and 3 are you looking for future proofing this FPS target for newer games, or just running games you have currently
I wanna run Warzone on 150fps or smth for sure. Also for newer games in the future. I’m looking for really good resolution as in settings from medium to high
resolution means what internal rendering resolution are you wanting aka 1080p/1440p etc not the quality settings
Ohh im aiming at that 3070/3090
But a few lower to start with should be okay, i can change that part later right?
you "can", it depends what you're wanting really
Well whats decent?
is 150 frames a render target using technologies like DLSS, or are you wanting raw performance to hit this level
Keep in mind that im fairly new to this pc specs thing, been running on a laptop for a long time
yeah no worries
Kind of both i guess?
As in I want it
ok so I'll assume you'll want it across all your games
Yeaa
DLSS isn't available in every game so it won't be feasible to hit this performance target with Nvidia cards, if you're wanting 150 frames a 6800xt/6900xt will be your best decision
pair that with a intel 12600/700k, you'll be fine
Do you have a website I could build a pc or smth?
yeah amd is way cheaper these days
Cause honestly I have no clue where to start
ironically it's not even cost
RDNA2 just has way better raw performance
I'll compile a list, give me a minute
And where do I find these parts? Do I buy them separately or do I put these together on a build-your-own-pc website?
Oh damn thanks alot bro!
amd is finally better than nvidia?
warzone is kinda ram dependent. I would get 3600 cl14 ram for DDR4, or smth like 5600 for DDR5
fair enouph my rx 6600 has excellent preformance in triple a games
also warzone favors nvidia gpu but 150 fps amd should have no trouble hitting that
I think amd is kinda ahead in pure rasterization
features wise is not even close
Honestly you’re talking chinese to me atm
like just raw fps no dlss no raytracing all that
Been watching youtube videos all night long to get a understanding how everything works
I guess thats where we all started right?
Also current gpu market is really f ed haha amd prices are just as insane :C
I managed to score a RTX 2080 super 2nd hand for 500 USD instead of getting a 6600 for my friend but I don't recommend doing that unless ur kinda tech savvy
Hehehe well it is one of the easiest ways to get information about new topics
where grim gram at LOL
https://uk.pcpartpicker.com/list/tWzsY9 here is a provisional list, all the parts are full compatible, I've excluded monitor selection and CPU cooler choice as these are custom preferences
^
also correct on the feature note
I would change the mobo to msi a pro z690 cause more usb port and get faster ram cause warzone
Ahw i couldn't see the gif
I have no clue what Im doing but imma do it
I built my friend using prime z690 and he was mad on how little usb ports it got haha
CL163600, increasing frequency past that has negligible difference for alder lake
you'll see maybe one frame increase at best
MB is valid was just a rush pick anyways
Do I need a cpu cooler? Cause when I played Bf or Wz on my laptop I could literally not put my hand more than 3secs on the screen or it would burn my hand
Ouch 1K gpu
yeah 1k I am surprised its that cheap LOL
you do, the processor isn't particularly power hungry, anything like a noctua nh-u12s will be fine
How's that cheap
that's cheap compared to current market prices
w8 nvm its in euros
I got my 6800xt for £1050 in Feb 2021
oof here available is 1420 usd
So should I buy these parts separately or build it on a website?
you can do either, it doesn't really matter
if you don't feel comfortable building it yourself having someone else do it for you will save you a few hours, depends what you prefer
12600k draws not much power I think a cheap
ARCTIC Freezer 34 eSports DUO can handle it
yeah 600k pick was intentional for that
also watch out for the meshify C its a great case but watch out on GPU length
I just built a meshify C build last sat
alternative is smth like a 4000D
I didn't know a I5 cpu could have 10 cores
it's ATX so unless it's some monstrosity like a 3090 there "shouldn't" be issues, 6800xt is quite compact for a FF
I thought the I3,I5,I7 was about cores inside of em
Ah okay ty
Intel's domination of the CPU marketplace for a decade+ means they were able to segregate core count bs according to their naming, with alder lake they had no choice but to scrap that
the case barely fit a 2080 super evga XC haha. if i had my 3070 ftw its kinda sus
is the tldr
But last time you were talking about that some of the Cores are not performance ones, are those 10 cores for performance or is it the 50% performance core none sense?
i5 12600k has 6 performance cores and 4 efficiency cores.
you guessed right
big.little uses a mix
Ty efficiency cores is what i meant indeed
efficiency core also kinda useless in just gaming.
not exactly
So they are probably also not that efficient in 3D programs like Blender and Unreal Engine?
the e cores are skylake level IPC for ADL so they are "useless" for games, right now
however that isn't universally true
that's purely down to golden cove running the entire show with processing power
the next generation with raptor lake will see the efficiency cores be impactful for gaming performance as they won't be a +50% performance deficit between the p and e cores in terms of IPC
Fuck i got distracted by the chat and exited my bus 1 stop too early
That would be cool.
cause rn all e core does is tank ring clock :C
thus gigabyte has a gaming mode in bios 1st line that disable all e cores.
I've went on long form rants here regarding intel and their practices but the abuse they got regarding e cores was not, founded in reality I suppose
misunderstanding from people more or less
I have been dabbing in 2nd hand market abit haha
got inspired by the 500 USD 2080 super
I was like if I can get 20 series for alot cheaper and match the 30 series in performance with alot less money, its worth a tiny gamble. I just need alot of alcohol and cheap artic mx5 haha
C18 3600 or c16 3200?
Search that on yt and there will be a comparison on loads of games @toxic wigeon
thats a lot imo
i got my 3090 msi suprim for 1300 euros
(should be around 1500 usd)
basically msrp
you lucky guy you got it for technically less than msrp
yep
just checked
nice
20usd cheaper than msrp
also now that i think about it
you are one of the luckiest poeple every tbh
and you have the rgb on your, 30% more fps
thats even better
i honestly turn them off
you lost a lot of fps there bud
i have all noctua fans and a liquid freezer ii so no rgb
i only keep rgb on for my keyboard and mouse
i mean rgb is a preference after all so nice ig lol
its a bit out of context
but it actually only cost £200 for a difference
5 bucks is not enough for me to take all the seats up at the Walmart snack bar
@pliant fox Yeah no we don't do that here.
Oh mybadd

3600 cl18 bandwidth and latency is slightly faster. I was testing this on my 3200 cl16 Samsung C die overclocked to 3600 cl18
3200 cl16 18 18 36 vs 3600 cl18 22 22 42
Anyone in here good with pc’s ?
Isn't that because Samsung hasn't released the drivers for it yet and they're using unoptimised ones?
yes
I'm pretty sure I read that somewhere
Okay do you think - Ryzen 5 2600x 6 core
24gb ddr4 ram
Rx 580 8gb video card
256gb NVME boot drive
1tb hdd storage drive
Windows 10 pro x64 bit
Can run gta rp or cod etc ?
at 1080p low settings im sure youll get decent performance out of it
So what’s not letting me run it at 1420p ?
1440p? gpu
What gpu should I get
for 1440p gaming? 3060ti minimum, ideally 3080 if you are talking 1440p/144hz comp gaming
How much do those typically run for ?
Anywhere I could get them even 100$ cheaper than what they are ?
youll be blessed to get one for msrp
Cause I was thinking abt get an Alienware pc if this pc wouldn’t work smoothly
you already have the pc above?
No that’s one that I’m looking at
The dude is selling it for $1,200 but if I can get a better pc for cheaper I’m all ears
thats rather expensive for that pc
That’s why I’m wondering if I could get something a little cheaper but has just about the same performance
I don’t really care for rgb and stuff like that I just want a good gaming pc
hes probably charging that just because of the gpu market, but i feel like any prebuilt will be better for that price (assuming USA)
I seen a dude selling a Alienware pc for 700 but there’s only a photo showing the pc not it turned on and working
And I wanna budget myself atleast 1k so I get can all the other accessories like a mic , monitor , and elgato
I was looking at nzxt but idk if they have any good pcs for atleast 1k
They have one that’s a foundation pc - H510 edition that’s 800 and can run gta at 60fps on 1080p
And the gpu is called APU whatever that is I don’t enough abt pc’s like that
The processor speed is 3.9GHz
I mean it looks pretty good the only issue is it only has 500gb storage
What site can I get this from ?
bestbuy
I was gonna look on newegg but they probably don’t have. Good cheap pc’s
I’d rather waste my money on a pc than a Xbox or PlayStation
dont give your money to newegg, they are assholes
Okay I’m gonna send you a message
anyone know if i can still get refund on bf2042? 36 hours play time bought the game when it released
got it on steam ty
you can try
yah gonna try
3080 should last a long time for high/RT 1080p gaming
and 1440p medium gaming as well (in a couple years)
even a 1070 will still run the majority of games at 1440p, though newer games will be ultra low settings and/or lowered res
10GB vram on "high end" 2020 card should be a crime.
Wow I’m gonna be spending a total of 1,500k on everything I need to start my pc gaming adventure
if you brought that pc nyphon sent above, 1.5k sounds about right if you have nothing currently
tbf i can run 2042 at 100fps all low 1080 p on my second pc (1070 laptop)
1070 is still a good gpu ngl
I might unless he’s gonna recommend something a little better
only looking at bestbuy thats what i would personally get, idk about other prebuilts
The main reason I’d be spending 1.5k is for a monitor chair and desk
mobile 1070 is kinda what a desktop 1060Ti would have been, performance-wise
Anyone use a 420 AIO?
it just means that theres no graphics card
so youre not gonna get great preformance
Oof
its one of the best value pcs ive seen these days damn
Or more specifically. Apu's (if I'm correct) are integrated gpus in the CPUs, they're not super powerful but they do their job.
@toxic wigeon I’m gonna send you a message
I just need help with deciding is all
And sadly I’m not able to send photos of specs in this chat
and at least you can upgrade to a gpu later if you need to
I might of found a decent setup
The only thing I’m not sure of is the intel core i5 running gta 5 on low settings at 1080p with a RTX 3050
I’d also would need to get another 8gb DDR4 3200
So I could have a total of 16gb ram space
have any input of if it would be a good system ? It also has a 600w gold psu
On bfv matches, my game runs completely fine until people start fighting so I wonder how I can reduce that frame drop, and I play on low settings
spec?
Oh my bad I can’t check right now but I’ll just ask tomorrow
Best Buy just lost me as an Elite Customer for 20+ years. https://www.tomshardware.com/news/best-buy-totaltech-geforce-rtx
yes
Which one do you have?
liquid freezer II
the 420 one is like 130 euros rn iirc
that window pump looks sick AF
I wonder if they fixed that cold plate offset for AMD
Ohh that's not the actual pump, but an indicator still good
You know a cards bad when its still in stock
people aren’t buying it? good
Qick what a stupid name for a card, wait, that name is perfect for the card.

Try watching this video in (8K) 4320p @ 60 fps https://youtu.be/WjoplqS1u18
no
hmmm. i cant now.
i used to be able to watch 8k videos fine.
cpu bottlenecked massively now, its like 3 fps
What CPU?
It's AV1 as well
14MB/s connection speed watching that video
runs pretty smooth
did you set it to 8K in the video settings?
Yep same here
5900x
6950x
firefox using mores cores than games lmao
r5 2600
8k 30 videos run smooth
thats why i remember being able to run them
ive never tried 8k 60
Watching 8k on my 1080p screen
for youtube it does actually make an improvement
high res videos have higher bitrates
so even tho its capped to your monitors res, it will look better than just selecting that res
Same Here
Yeah it's AV1
So its decoding on CPU?
from what i can tell
those humps line up with the buffers, which tell me the gpu isnt doing anything, its just displaying the image
that's weird
ahhhhh
I was just about to say
nope, still not using gpu
Ohh thats not by device, its by encoder type
should be something somewhere about hardware acceleration
in Chrome?
yar
So apparently 3000 series GPU is going t0 play it better I guess
like i said it USED to use gpu
there is a setting in the browser I believe somewhere
People with ryzen non-apu and 6500xt
yep
welp who knows
not like im ever actually going to watch an 8k video. just curious as to why its not using gpu
You have to set it in some settings I believe it depends on what browser you are using
i looked
only thing i could find was about hardware acceleration, and it was already enabled
hmm. I'm looking to see if I find it, would be nice to know
maybe in Nvidia Control Panel somewhere
I wonder if setting Game Mode to ON will fix it.
So i'm reading that people have to download something from windows store
@supple baneWhat GPU do you Have?
2070
im not that desperate to watch 8k videos, i just didnt know why it was working and now it isnt
force enable it
cause firefox bad
yours doesnt support GPU AV1 acceleration
RDNA2 and ampere only
sure your 8700k will be happy
🔥
Why does it work on my 2080?
Okay so I get it now, hince the cpu usage.
I'm a proud that my Old CPU can play an 8k video fairly smooth
it doesnt work on your 2080, your GPU is accelerating other parts of the D3D stream, but the actual video is being processed by the CPU
it is impossible for turing to decode AV1 on a hardware level
Thanks, I figured it out just before. I was thinking due to the high GPU usage, yes you are correct. I was confused. the older 8K 60 video play just fine. as they are on the previous encoder. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=linlz7-Pnvw
No reason to upgrade unless you need to encode AV1, or watch a lot 8K AV1
Don't you need a AV1 GPU to Encode it as well
you dont, you cant encode with them at all
the accelerators only support decode streams, they dont function with encode streams
How do you render a AV1 movie?
because rendering a file is decoding a file
encoding something means actually processing something which doesnt exist yet, aka making a movie in say AV1, which would be impossible with RDNA2/ampere, but you can watch it perfectly fine because decoding AV1 is supported
Ahh okay. So how is Youtube doing it?
8k is massive
every time you double the pixel count you are increasing the processing time by ^n2 every single time
It's crazy
how do i reduce the lag in bfv when more fights start to occur and when it gets chaotic
alt + f4
Looks like your an immersion gamer so best way is to uninstall
A really really slow server that I bought a while back. 1 chrome tab of YouTube 1080p video playback = spike at 100% usage, averaging 33% cpu usage during playback
But the good thing is 4w power consumption from the cpu per se
Well, it doesn’t mean it can’t run as a server. This thing did process and publish all those data from sensors to my website 24/7 for 4 years, until it got replaced with a single core rpi zero
It cost around 7 AUD a year to run a server tho
Bruh 7 aud a year is nothing, some people pay 7 aud a month to rent a server :0
reduce graphics quality and perhaps try to turn futurr frane rendering on or off
also play in full screen
My rpi zero w now only cost 1.8 AUD/year, or 15 cents/month to run. Pretty impressive.
Oh damn that really is impressive!
The only down side is we don’t have enough solar panels to cover the electricity usage
I want to get a new cpu and RAM but i would also need a new mobo for the cpu upgrade... so when i save enough money to buy for those upgrades i am thinking of making a second bare bone pc for a server perhaps
I think you should save up until you have enough to buy it all at once
Imma guess you mean the electric usage of the devices that make use of the server?
Coz I used to save up money from lunch to buy all those parts one by one
Regretted it immediately
Oh lol why?
Yep. We use more power than we generated
I know this is the smart way to do it, but when it comes to new gadgets/technology i get very impatient lol
Coz there was a 9 months wait between my cpu and my gpu. Then I bought myself a laptop 5 months afterward
Oh ouch...
So the whole computer that I built, was pretty much useless and I haven’t touched it for around 10 years and counting
Oh yeah that sucks... thanks i will keep that in mind
Well, I didn’t actually buy a monitor screen till 3 years after
But yeah, this is what I would suggested
Selecting a good monitor for the right price can be tricky if it is your first monitor tho
Sometimes people may want to get a laptop instead coz they have to travel around
I paid extra for an HDR screen and i regret it :(
Eh, that was my first IPS monitor
HDR screen isn’t the best option, I would rather pay a bit premium for a better quality panel
Yeah exactly, but it is an LG monitor so the screen is good, but also a lie lol
My UHD display can do HDR but at 400 nits
So it is better than nothing but I don’t use it at all
LG makes good panels
Yeah exactly that is also something to pay attention to
But yeah I know how painful it was to save up and get what I wanted back when I was a teen
I saw a screenshot of Hess's gameplay and he has an ultra wide... now i am curious about screens like that
I have a 21:9 ultrawide but not a 32:9
So hess has an 32:9 screen? Damn
I would say it is better than 16:9 coz it is more cinematic
I bought a 21:9 coz i like how cinematic it looks
But I would say you cannot see much anything wider than that
Yeah but they also look stretched sometimes... also it is nice to have a square screen when using 3D software because than i can have info at the bottom of the screen as well
But for gaming, i think it would be lots of fun
I remember isn’t that LG makes a weird 16:18 display?
So basically it is 2x 16:9 panels stacked on top of each other
Depends. I bought it for gaming and watching movies. No regret
Wtf did i just google lmaaooooo
That is an interesting screen, for a specific situation
I would say production works
Exactly it would, also less left to right movement so i think it would feel better for your neck
Being able to view a timeline and a live view screen is perfect for the use case
Coz 16:9 is just too short for it
Yeah
Exactly
But in my case i wouldn't need a whole new screen, just a tiny bit taller. I would like to see the materials tab on the bottom of the screen so i can color my objects nicely
I think the manufacturers used to made 5:4 display (I cannot confirm if they are still making it today) for web browsing
I think tiling the 16:9 screen 90 degrees still work
Thank you! Finally i know what the purpose of those square screens are lmao 😂
I never understood the purpose of those and they are just weird looking at them
Yeah this would be the superior way i agree
They have different use cases. I was just too lucky to use it all from CRT to IPS in the past 20 years
I’m at my early 20s lol
Ah so you really grew up with technology, nice
I grew up with a tv and the wii, ps3 and 4... i am the same age as you :)
Big change I would say. We are lucky enough to see all kinds of changes in tech
And lucky enough to be born in the era, since we requires the least amount of effort to learn as we grow up with the latest tech over the years
That is very true
Anyways i am gonna get my lazy ass up, out of my bed and get breakfast... it was fun talking to ya, cya :)
Gonna go to bed coz it is a bit late here. Good night
Sweet dreams!
See ya
i have 1k bugdet can anyone recommend me decent build for 2042?
Are there any other games you want to play and which games are those? Asking ahead of the people who have time to make a build for you ;)
FiveM, Rust, probably some VR titles like pavlov
Oh FiveM for RP in gta?
yes
I installed an NVMe on an Intel G31/ICH7 w/ E2160 Socket 775 and it actually works. Only getting just under 700MB/s Read/Write but I did not think it would be possible. Pretty sure PCIe 1.0 as it only refers to being PCI Express x 16. Still fun to see it works. MS-7525 Board
Ohh and the NVNe was a Western Digital SN750
Finally got my 12600k/3080 build done. Just in time to hop back on the 2042 train!
Nice rig
budget for 2042? doesn't exist
Kool
what train?
the derailed one?
this would actually be pretty difficult even with msrp gpu and below msrp cpu
you can get something quite good for 1.3k
rx6600xt and 12400f
You'll have to sorta push it.
is there anything I should change? https://pcpartpicker.com/user/Gdhdhsjdhdmxj/saved/#view=qDNrvK
why is it?
12th gen outperforming amd literally everywhere ? 180$ 12400f >> 270$ r5 5600x ?

I think the second one looks better
Same
Bought it, here on Tuesday. Do think it was just the less obnoxious.
ya, second one without rgb looks better
Got it with the RGB because there is RGB already in the case and there is a bit of a deadzone in that space.
Looks like they both have RBG, the second one is addressable RGB

give it 40 years until it actually makes its way into the Linux kernel with the repo maintainers shouting at each other about "maintainability"
changing the ps4 base HDD for an SSD... good lord making an back up takes FOR EVER on an HDD
yeah true but man it hurts lol, i don't even use this ps4 my self.. it is for my sis
At least amd is good with linux expect nvidia
What program are you using to make the backup?
The default ps4 software, it allows to export some game captures i had
Ahh okay, I thought maybe you pulled it out, and was backing it up on PC.
can punkbuster detect reshade on bf4?
yes
nope

try this
Downloading a browser on Linux is easier than doing it via another browser.
Also you don't have to disinfect your PC after using Edge.
indeed
sudo pacman -S firefox (for anch) or apt install with debian distros
Kek
minus the fact that Linux hasn't, and continues not to support half of any new implemented features till months after they become available on MAC and windows for browsers
ever tried to get vulkan working on Linux for browsers? yeah good luck with that without 5 different modified drivers which make it "compatible" (aka hacky solutions which have 50 different bugs by themselves)
deco do you know what to do when windows reserves 8gb out of 16gb for hardware making only 8gb available ? ive seen that problem a few times, people had never set anything weird in msconfig
Hmm I heard google may bring chrome os to pc
Chrome os is using pc hardware anyway, either arm or x86-64 processors
The problem is that, chrome os may not support older hardware at the same time. I would be very surprised if I got my hands on a >$600 chromebook coz it is too expensive for a laptop that does limited tasks with similar hardware a windows laptops have.
It is chrome os by the end of the day…
perhaps clear cmos
New Win11 update finally has clock on secondary monitors. What amazing technology!
Yyeeesss!! Finally xd
Are you being sarcastic? 😆
maaaaaaaybe
I think the goal of the new chrome os by google is to do that
Its called chrome os flex and that's bascially what's it goal transform your old laptop or pc's into chromium based pc's
You know I might try to install it on pentium 4 machine I got my stepdad
See if it even can at least install it
how do you mean?
for some people task manager says that they are using x/8gb of ram although they have 16gb ram installed, task manager also says that (the other) 8gb are reserverd for hardware, usally only a few MB are reserved for hardware but if 8gb are reserved you will only have 8gb left to actually use
have a screenshot of this?
cant send here just go into task manager -> ram and pretend its says "hardware reserved: 8gb" in the bottom right corner and your also missing 8gb where it shows ur ram usage
the only reason this could happen basically is with an incorrect RAM configuration
windows will automatically detect the sticks on boot, so if there's dust or whatever between the slots it will incorrectly read the DIMM slots
cpu-z recognizes 16gband both sticks
the problem isnt the sticks themselves
can just be a loose stick or whatever, it happens, make sure they are actually firmly in the slots, aka double clicked
but windows seems to know that the sticks are there as well but for some reason 8gb get reserved for hardware and therefore are not available for normal use
is this a 8x2 config or 4x4?
2x8
you can actually manually prevent windows from accessing all the ram, if you do that the amount of ram windows cant access will appear as the hardware reserved value but im sure nobody "accidentally" does that with a bcdedit command and throws away half the ram
its also sort of possible with msconfig but i checked that nothing set there just trying to figure out a "not reinstalling windows" solution
see the thing is windows reads the modules, on boot, not during its operation, so there's only 2 real, areas for actually going wrong, the actual slots, or some software
you're going to have more success reseating the actual modules than messing about with software settings, so do that first before you do anything else
isnt it obvious that some half plugged in stick either doesnt get recognized at all or the motherboard doesnt post ?
it isnt, actually
its not what youd think
each section of the gold DIMM module houses some sort of data read responsible for different parts of a system, one being loose will not necessarily cause any obvious issues such as not posting or whatever, just as long as that pin contact is connected to the DIMM slot
these sorts of things happen and are perfectly normal, and is the most likely to occur with the actual modules, so reseat the actual modules before you do 20 different things you forget about which dont fix the problem, but will cause more problems down the road
ive seen it a few times now feels like lottery to plug in a ram stick just wrong enough but not too wrong so it kinda works but actually doesnt
you misunderstand
it doesnt mean you did anything wrong to begin with
gravity causes memory itself to become loose from the slot
guess
frankly you would be better off with some version of ubuntu: my dad has inspiron 5000 laptops from like 12 years ago that run ubuntu just fine
Are they running a Ram Disk, or Ram Cache?
This can also even be Samsung Magician if a SATA SSD is set to Rapid Mode.
I would think if it was for APU shared system memory it would not reserve it that way, but it could be onboard video reserving the system ram.
APU VRAM does not "allocate" extra memory, it will only ever use the memory which is available to it (that is its own internal VRAM), you are thinking of pooled memory, which is shared between the OS and hardware, this is segregated and is different to hardware reserved memory
WOOOO
hell yeah
i've been missing that feature
HRM is memory which is solely responsible for providing enough system memory to the hardware drivers, and that's it
the drivers need their own ram?
of course, every process on a pc needs memory, it's impossible for them to function if they don't have resources
makes sense
never fully understood how the hardware drivers really work
makes sense for them to still need rma
so what causes some people to have an issue with HRM being almost half their memory sometimes?
oh didn't realize that was what the topic was
i've seen some people say it might be due to 32 bit windows, or some people just clear CMOS and hope for the best
the ram having gone bad seems like an extreme tbh
the architecture version of Windows isnt applicable to this
because it has nothing to do with HWR at all
granted it was a buildapc subreddit and i didn't believe it at all either lmao
yeah Reddit users aren't exactly the brightest bulbs you'll see on the internet
some are alright... but most people as soon as they somewhat learn how PCs work flock to reddit with the right intentions of wanting to help people but just lack the knowledge sometimes and lead people to do bad things
there was a post about someone literally telling a poor guy (i think a kid) to open up a power supply and mess with something in it
which can cause bodily harm if not done by a professional who knows how to do it safely
don't trust strangers tldr
dont trust strangers on the internet
there are many people who are smart and have plenty of know how
AKA basically the servers that i stick around in with pc build help
my knowledge and hands on experience has grown rapidly over time but there's always something to learn
xd the people ive seen with that problem just about know how to turn on a pc they basically dont do anything but game
Latest Windows 11 update finally updated notepad. Mmmm.
I will use Win10 as long as it is supported
I have new technology😀12600k/3080 10GB
was actually in the beta build a month ago
You can say that about every update for Win11 though
eh not really, the taskbar change came in this week, notepad has been there for a while
Still waiting for that dark mode task manager though
Nice
will be out very soon, the dev build contains the code to turn it on
I like some parts of Windows 11, dislike other parts
I like some parts about space heaters, dislike other parts
centered panel is nice, but the start menu is worse with recommendations and ads
you can actually just switch them off
also more clicks to do a lot of stuff
they don't show unless you've turned them on
ive not, its default
yeah, you need to explicitly turn them on during the installation it's a prompt that says targeted advertising
meh must have kept it turned on since w10
nope
happens
eh fresh install of W11 is 99% advised anyways tbh
I'll need to purge my upgrade I've done aswell and move over
Agreed, upgrade gives too many weird issues in my experience
I have read people have so many issues with Win 11 I just built a new PC and installed Win 11. I have had literally ZERO issues. Are the people with hardware that is not current gen having issues?
the stats for that are 98% of people with the current gen hardware haven't had problems (problems being, major crashes what not), meaning 98/100 people who have issues don't meet the requirements, in some capacity
dude says really dumb, nonsensical things pretty often, just like fellow billionaires trump and musk
elden ring
Nope
1 frame per GHz
It should be minimum system requirement
Down from “Above” Recommended requirement level
That's why I stated I wouldn't think it would report that way, but the system does allocate system memory for video beyond the physical dedicated. But either way yeah it's not the issue, I should maybe not have mentioned it. https://www.pcegaming.com/images_blog/vramsysram.jpg
It's possible they have rapid mode enabled on a sata ssd
It could be the motherboard doesn't actually support it, I don't know what the actual board is though. Could be a BIOS limitation
Maybe mixed sticks not supported by board or bios
Was it still popular? I had four sets of DIMMs go bad, never used them again.
Oh damn
Ballistix memory was one of the best
You will be missed
Im on my third set of corsair vengence in the space of 3 years, i feel like ram is just one of those things that die
i mean corsair vengeance is shit ram though
crucial ballistix is way better
i use tridentz silver-red
I thought Corsair was one of the best ngl

maybe I was wrong
idr if i have ever had ram die. my last ddr3 lasted 7 years before i just gave it away, still worked though
if you want good ram them crucial ballistix 3600mhz cl16
like bruh i have hyperx (laptop) and cruciall ballistix max on my desktop and never had to replace ram
i mean it really is a bad thing that you had to replace your ram 3 times in 3 years ...
I have had a ddr2 ram stick that failed
i mean yeah but ddr2 was a long time ago
The cpu that failed on me was a MS surface pro, which is a refurbished model
I haven't heard of RAM failure during normal usage unless people OC it
all ram comes from the same 4ish places
why spend a bunch on ddr4 rn?
i guess if you absolutely have to build a new pc rn
People can spend a double for DDR5 ram or pay half the price for DDR4 and also new parts, these things aren't cheap. They can buy it or wait for 2 years for the price to come down.
i mean its literally 70 euros
for 16 gbs
wich is like 80 dollars iirc
so its not a bunch and second ddr5 is scalped for over 400 dollars for some kits
fixed it
kk
(where i live ofc)
i mean yeah it's fine, though 16GB is pretty small these days
tbh no
kind of the bare minimum for a new computer
depends on what games and what you do
i have 32 on both laptop and desktop
but i need to it for games development
i would only get less than 16 if used some lighter OS than windows and/or literally only used it for email
i mean kinda of but even for a decent gaming experience 8 is enough
also swap file is a thing, even though ssd isnt as fast a ram
but for gaming imo 16 is the right choice
16 is the minimum at this point
16 GB is plenty for gaming unless you are playing games like cities skylines that allows you to install mods or texture pack. With the amount of workshop files that I have installed, it uses 31GB.
with discord/spotify open and anything else you might need you’re gonna be hitting 8gb on basically every game
But I just wouldn’t get anything with less than 16
games still run fine on 8. 16 will give about 10-20% more performance
Even my 2011 laptop has 16gb of ram
dont forget, just cuz a game is using say 13gb ram, doesnt mean it NEEDS that
define “games”
plus it’s not about performance increase either, 90% of the time in games when you max out ram it can cause major stuttering and sometimes even crashing depending on how bad the game is optimization wise
plus alt tabbing would take forever
Btw windows 10 itself uses 2.6gb already
and i get 4.5gb idle on a good day
windows for example will use like 200gb of ram at idle if you max out an epyc build. does that mean windows on that build is running faster cuz its using more ram? no, its just using what its got.
I think it is all down to temporarily files
macOS (this is not windows) tends to use utilise more ram for system caches and store temporary files. My 15” MacBook Pro 16gb model uses 11-14gb doing normal tasks, with a couple of safari tabs and discord open
The system is well optimised using the ram, it makes it faster to do everyday tasks (only applies on macOS), instead of having 12gb of ram on idle and not fully utilised
i frequently use over 16GB but very rarely over 24GB
when i get ddr5 (in at least 4 years) i'll definitely be upping it to 64 though
again
windows uses what its got
thats not to say what you are doing requires that amount of ram
Eh? Corsair Vengeance LPX non-RGB has been some of the best memory I've used in the last decade. x5 machines with multiple upgrades between 16-64Gb of range installs. Weird you've had such bad luck with it.
thats the very memory
Are you OC'g the memory?
That's crazy
It is typically pretty good, so for me it's wild he's having so much issues.
my current set has been going for a while, and is well over even xmp speeds currently
What timings?
is there much difference in 3200mhz and 3600mhz, performance wise ?
youtube
you can close stuff and prevent apps from startinf eith windows
my pc uses 1.3 gbs on idle
i simply disabled services i dont need, like xbox stuff
depends on cas latency
if its at the same cas latency 3600mhz is better and has higher bandwidth
3200 cl 16 is same as 3600 cl 18, in some scenarios 3600 can still be better because of higher bandwidth
i still dont understand what CL16 and CL18 are, is the higher the CL the better ?
ahh
Read the pins and then ask your question(s).

i know, it’s just discord + other background apps and i’m too lazy to do a full reset of a stripped windows
Man my moms laptop windows update corrupted the touchpad driver
had to uninstall the driver and literally reinstall it
Did you do that all with the keyboard or with a mouse?
Sometimes SSD/HDD gets bad sectors over time, that happens a lot when the drive is old/weak or it ran out of space.
I would recommend to install windows precision driver on it if you don't have one.
what does that do? Locate the less efficient parts of the HDD?
Bad sectors = the HDD/SSD is unable to read/write coz that "small section of the storage" is/are malfunctioning.
Windows precision drivers = A better touchpad driver developed by Microsoft with better touchpad responsiveness and greater accuracy, compared to the stock Synaptics or ETD drivers that is preinstalled on the laptop. The precision driver works even better than what ETD or Synaptics can provide.
@lone sable
ahhh... the naming makes more sense now... thank you
No worries
but yeah. It was an eMMC based system with 32GB of storage. The software from pc was running perfectly until windows update has decided to download 10gb of files while it has 2GB left from the system
it crashed and many things went corrupted
I wouldn't touch Windows unless I'm unable to switch on my desktop. Coz I know the more I update/play with it, the higher chance I will fail
I'll test it maybe it is better
I do have a laptop so I'll try it on mine first
still can't get into a match lmao
could not find a suitable game battlefield 4 HELP PLEASE
.
And hopefully an affordable HEDT from Intel.
https://wccftech.com/intel-sapphire-rapids-ap-hedt-cpu-lineup-late-2022-launch-rumor/
Yeah I know someone that works on them
On the CPUs?
Yes
Thats kool. What do they, like in the factory or something?
Yeah manufactoring
No idea
I heard they will all be Xeons
anyone know how to fix bf3 just saying joining server but i wont join the server?
where can i find, on windows 11, the config file for battlefield V?
under /documents/bfv/settings/profsave_profile
this is the old user.cfg?
user.cfg is a file you need to create
and it needs to be put in the directory of the game
ok, thanks
wich can vary if you have installed from steam or origin
not in the main of the game?
origin
then should be C:/Program Files (x86)/Origin Games/Battlefield V
thats the default directory
