I thought the point of having a fab (other than profits/revenue) in 2020s is to secure the production capacity. If a fab-less company has secured the majority of the 5nm wafers and meaning the other companies will have to compete with many other companies for the rest of the fab production capacity. the company which secured the most wafers was paying more upfront to save more in return (reduce production cost and earn more profits) for the next year or two. In contrast, other companies would have earn less, or increase the price of their products

yes and no, as much as having your own fabrication plants allows for having a certain quota of production capacity it doesn't necessarily translate into actually using that capacity to it's fullest, case in point which is why Intel's fabs were spun off into their own independent entity to begin with because they are massive black holes of money to keep maintained, nevermind actually upgrading nodes, in terms of fabless companies, there is no real higher overall long return compared to not being fabless, the premium that Apple pay to obtain the majority supply of 5/(insert nm) of TSMC will always be far higher than any supposed saving can accumulate because no company actively stays on the same node long enough to see a return saving

Depends on how you look at my message. However, in reality, companies aims for newer tech (well, it would be expensive to put a 5nm chip inside a calculator) in 2020s since it becomes a competition, car manufacturers, computer goods manufacturers etc. From a fabless company perspective, if a company has hold a certain amount of 5nm wafers up front, they can use it all while other companies were paying even more for the remaining wafers. What I said was, in 2020s where the 5/7/10/14 nm nodes are expensive to purchase, car manufacturers who aims for the newer tech nodes, either they are unable to obtain, or willing to pay extra for the chips (which is already expensive and super unrealistic, your internet router wouldn't be using those 5/7 or 14nm chips). And yes, just like intel, we all remember AMD which used to own their very own fab. However, building those 2nm or 3nm node fabs are expensive, which will given a greater return in the future. However, those older nodes, like 40nm or even 90nm are still expensive to run, but the newer tech would be more profitable for sure. (Companies still using 90nm today, don't forget >90nm nodes accounted 10% of the profits in 2019)

ahh you're talking about from the pov of the fabricator, I assumed you meant the client, makes more sense, in that case yes that's very true, although depends on the fabrication facility, well, specifically, companies which rely on older nodes such as goflo "typically" have a policy of avoiding competing with the likes of Samsung and TSMC to generate profit, realistically TSMC will not be getting back the costs of what their 7nm capital costs required until close to 2027 because of its constant expansion and adoption of EUV lithography, there is, kind of, an argument for the long term return option, however it isn't universal as those which use much older nodes like 90nm/goflo nodes are reluctant to want to adopt new nodes which is what the fabricator would prefer (so they can get back the initial costs of the node quicker), it's a company specific policy mostly

looking at 12600k or 6600x for cpu. depending on which is better. a decent (white) motherboard which ill decide at the time obviously for around 150-200. nhd 15 chromax.black with those chromax.white covers. now the rm 850x. probably vengeance ram in white. and im not sure about case fans yet

im going for an all white build as you can probably tell.
