Why even intel to begin with, I partly get it but not really. Sure, if you have a intel optimized motherboard then that's one thing but if you are for example building a PC then reconsider, that's my opinion. Depends on what you mean high end was. The 8700k and 7820x came out around the same time. 7820x was a god tier cpu. 8 core 16 thread . Came out before the 1700x/ryzen. Overclocks to 4.7ghz pretty commonly. Mobos werent as expensive as people complained about. ( i have an asrock extreme 4 for 189 bucks. Cpu was 489 bucks delidded and overclock through silicon lottery. Still keeps up with 9900k/10700k within a couple percent depending on the game. 300+ for the 8700k vs 500 for what we have now as i9's and i7's id say that was the real king for how long it lasts. With the 10700k out now it now is reaching a point where next gen might warrant an upgrade. solid 3-4 years without being dethronned.

Oh and hedt cpus are roughly twice the size of mainstream intels. It has twice the surface area to cool. I had 1.25 volts at 4.7ghz 8 sticks at 3600mhz cl16 with a mesh overclock to 3.2ghz. Pushed that cpu to its max and it still pulled less power then a 9900k/10700k. Ran at 60-70c on air full bore

i used compressed air to get settled dust off of the motherboard and gpu, then left it to all settle around then used a brush to brush it all into a pile in the corner away from any components, brushed fans off and brushed the rad then again pushed it all into the corner and schlooped it all up with the vacuum
