Heya I'm looking for a secondary router to directly connect to my PC as it's annoying having an ethernet cable across the house.

#

What's a good one that I can use?

#

All I need to do is unbox it, plug it in, connect it to the primary network and be done. Nothing more nothing less.

molten flame
pale quartz
#

you'll at a absolute minimum need to set it as bridging mode so it doesn't act as the host router, and probably do some configuration depending on what the host router is

general recommendation is the Asus rt-86u pro but there's no such thing as a "plug and play" custom router

toxic wigeon
harsh thorn
#

Wifi extender or a wifi card in your pc is what you need.

pale quartz
#

no, that's not it

#

this is for extending an ethernet connection

harsh thorn
#

Like what an extender does?

pale quartz
#

a WiFi extender converts a ethernet connection into a WiFi connection as a bridge, it's not an optimal solution

#

@toxic wigeon I don't know if you explicitly require another router unless you're wanting to sync other ethernet (2+ connections) to it, seems a bit expensive, the main problem is that router still has to connect to that other router (via ethernet/WAN), you'll need to give specifics on what exactly your plan is

#

you can very easily set it to bridging mode but it doesn't particularly solve your problem per say of having an ethernet wire across the house

harsh thorn
#

What does solve the problem of having a wire going throug your house is using wifi. And if the wifi signal isnt good enough, you use an extender in the middle.

pale quartz
#

yeah only problem is WiFi is dog shit for anything that involves latency

#

you're at the mercy of your NIC and unless you have bought an external decent one they're all mostly garbage/bad

harsh thorn
#

What kind of wifi do you have?? My latency is 2-4 inside my country on both wifi and ethernet.

pale quartz
#

its not about the kind of wifi, you just introduce problems that you dont want, is all

#

interference/impedence from other broadcasters/random packet drop if youre syncing through a wall, the only time wifi is optimal is a clear link (i.e. no broadcast impendence) from the pc to the router, which in that situation, youd use ethernet anyways

#

it is always a last resort solution

harsh thorn
#

Anyway, its up to @toxic wigeon to deside how complicated this is going to be.

pale quartz
#

it doesnt have to be, a powerline kit is a basic solution

toxic wigeon
#

Yeah i just live in a bit of a blackspot for my motherboards wifi and I'm running out of PCIE slots.

#

Unless an Ethernet aerial exists.

pale quartz

get a powerline kit, make sure theres 2 plug sockets clear, next to the router and pc, and sync them up that way, your problem goes away

I'll give it a look

Thank you.

about half or over are millionaires, even those in the junior rankings, so theyll just be doing what they want at this point

brave sundial
#

leo didn't jensen complain about that too once

pale quartz
#

yeah

pale quartz
#

they are one of, if not the most generous in the world for employee compensation, most engineers there could retire whenever they want and be set for life

#

and even if they dont meet that category theyre still setting themselves up to be millionaires with the amount of RSUs employees are awarded

brave sundial
#

so they'd still be coming to work at that point because they're bored basically leo

pale quartz
#

nvidia is a very bottom up driven organisation with projects where employees are incentivised to come up with new stuff, rtx hdr etc were all ideas that came from the bottom

#

they stay because they want to, the additional compensation the higher ups provided as retention bonuses certainly helped, but its one of the best culture organised companies around, and has been for well over a decade

brave sundial
#

leo so they're like google but if the idea was actually well organised and implemented

pale quartz
#

the nvidia of today is a product of jensen's technical knowledge and fostering a culture of success at any cost, id advise anyone interested in their history to look at what engineers were doing 20 years ago in the name of advancement

brave sundial
#

I believe they have a similar corporate structure?

pale quartz
#

alphabet in terms of corporate structure are much bigger

#

in that NV is much flatter (and more efficient)

#

alphabet has suffered from a culture of complacency and game of thrones where employee priorities are to become the yes men to leadership, NV was never about that because they understood innovation meant some things would suck

brave sundial
pale quartz
#

ehh different sectors, valve is much more of a multi-facet organisation, but similar idea yeah

#

tae kim's the nvidia way book is a good overview of its history

#

in 1997 jensen was out to put intel out of business, thats the type of engineering innovation they were after (ruthless)

GeForce RTX 5060 Ti with 8GB memory tested: 16GB version up to 589% faster in 1% FPS LOW NVIDIA did their best to bury the reviews of the GeForce RTXĀ 5060Ā TiĀ 8Ā GB by instructing board partners not to send samples of that graphics card to the media.
