the 8 gen 4 wont be available till the S25 releases which should be in February

#

Now its the 6 months cycle we have between TSMC with Apple and Qualcomm with the Snapdragon

brave sundial
turbid verge
#

the big plus size I can see in this is

#

healthy competition between apple and android hardware phones

brave sundial
#

leo I'm interested in the oneplus 14

brave sundial
turbid verge
turbid verge
#

I prefer how samsung and even sony at least takes the snapdragon and tries to squeeze as much performance without trying to shock it and killing your batery within a span of less than 2 years of constant use

#

Not gonna mention google here with the stock android and their Tensor CPU since its a very different story. But got respect them for making some really good phones as well

digital hill
brave sundial
#

Tensor was never meant to be competitive, Google have stated that multiple times

any mediatek tablet was like shit

turbid verge
#

think about it. At least its not an exynos skull_ani

brave sundial
pale quartz
#

ehh

#

ehhhh

#

it's a bit more complicated

turbid verge
#

Iam pretty sure the Tensor CPU is like designed how google wants to use it

#

its like saying Apple designs their own hardware in function to use it with the OS

#

optimized workloads

#

something like that

digital hill
turbid verge
#

Pretty sure the most recent iteration of the Tensor is to focus AI stuff(?)

brave sundial
pale quartz
#

the mechanism called deep sleep is a feature by google, not phone manufacturers, what they can do however is control the aggressiveness of (that behaviour), OnePlus and others used it to inflate performance figures and it more or less decreases battery life rather ironically if it's too aggressive

Samsung have their own custom behaviour which is separate

digital hill

#

the most important parts come from Taiwan, Korea and Japan

pale quartz
#

they do, just not directly

turbid verge
#

yeh

pale quartz
#

the phone yes, the sourced materials not so much

#

you cannot build a phone without using china in some capacity

turbid verge
#

I mean India is big enough and has a lot of labor for it

India is 2nd in world population

brave sundial

digital hill

turbid verge

pale quartz

it's wasteful and stupid because what it does is make background memory irrelevant and forces more CPU cycles to reboot an application

turbid verge

havent seen much about it

pale quartz
#

alright more or less

#

nothing exceptional in particular

turbid verge
#

idk if the tensor is a power hungry boy

turbid verge
brave sundial
turbid verge
#

biggest W I've seen lately in all phone designs mostly google or apple or samsung or sony is the battery replacement now is less of and headache for 3rd party

brave sundial
turbid verge
pale quartz
#

though you get a gimped battery in return

brave sundial
turbid verge
#

although you get the trade off between android and apple

brave sundial
turbid verge

apple have smaller batteries true, but ios optimization is really good

brave sundial

more or less white noise now

turbid verge
#

didnt samsung said something about making their own mobile os at some point?

#

idk could be imagining something

pale quartz
#

some 7 odd years ago yeah but will never happen now

brave sundial
turbid verge
#

I guess the R&D on it led to nothing

#

or they made a partnership agreement with the devil

pale quartz
#

theyd immediately kill their phones the moment they tried anything like that

it was just an experiment announcement nothing in particular at the time

# modern gull Does the pc shut off?

It only shut off when playing Bf5, honestly i’ve had 5 hours consistently playing tw3 on ultra+ and I’ve never had any issue , as to numerous other games but bf5

#

Thus far it’d given me about 5 shut downs, 3 black screen 2 green screens and caused the hdmi port to not recognize my monitor , then I switched from a 1660s to a 6700xt and its still crashing. Recently the game caused my gpu to switch to microsoft basic adapter

What makes it strange is it happens in only one game

#

Else it would be some clear gpu issue in my eyes from what you said

#

"3 black screen 2 green screens and caused the hdmi port to not recognize my monitor" makes it sound more like gpu issue tbh

last saddle
#

I’m wondering the same thing too, I guess its the EA anticheat or something. Again I’ve brought the pc to repair alot of times now, the hardware had been cleaned after being fixed. Might be due to ray tracing or DX12 but I’ve ran tw3 on dx12 fine as well as metro exodus on high ray tracing without an issue.

its a 650 watt psu, I can’t tell if its the power supply since the game used much less than the other games, at 180watt usage on the gpu alone it was still going fine, I think Bf5 only eats around 130w

# modern gull How about your cpu etc..?

Might be cpu bound, on either dx11 or dx12 with dxr the cpu was always on 100% usage, but I guess it was just building the shaders, there were frequent stutters yet the same thing happened on rdr2, though no crashes

I mean, which cpu you have

#

And the 6700xt right?

last saddle
# modern gull Nice ty

No problem, I guess I’ll try replacing the psu along with using another gpu. Though the people at the repair shop would doubt it since only one game is causing the issue

last saddle
modern gull
#

Are you sure its just not coincidence?

last saddle
#

The 1660s used considerably less wattage and it was sitting only a mere 80watts or something, on the 6700xt while playing exodus it was taking 180watts and above

modern gull
#

Also one would think with "from a 6700xt to a microsoft basic adapter" that its just gpu dying or not getting power. So i guess that could point too psu also

After the crash, neither the 6700xt nor the intel uhd graphics 710 were appearing on the list

It was the latest version, I’ll assume it was probably a program or an app that deliberately removed the AMD driver along with the integrated intel graphics. New rumor that 9800X3D launches first before 2025 and doesn’t support overclocking (105-120W max.) 9900X3D and 9950X3D launch later in the first quarter and will support overclocking (170+W)

digital hill

The trend is what is causing more e-waste

pale quartz

I know the cheap 3.5mm wires that usually break but buy a decent one like a shoe, it should last a lifetime

pale quartz
#

the 3.5mm connector is unstable as shit and prone to frying randomly when it wants within a year with minimal pressure

#

nevermind the sensitivity issues which causes degradation loss with enough torque
