I think in terms of gameplay, BFV takes it. The gunplay has been stated to be the best if not really good for the franchise, with 2042 also having a similar TTK.
The movement is also really solid, which 2042 is also improving upon.
I think when people look back on BF1 they look back with nostalgia glasses and say that the immersion outweighs some of the gameplay

Oh and 6.2 fixed 5.2’s TTK

BF1 had behemoths which were cool and all, but they didn’t do much to change the game

They were more there to soften the blow

I’d also be willing to say that BFV has the best tank gameplay of the franchise

i only used it cause i liked it (the actual gun in real stuff). but it's more used as a sniper rifle than something you want to use up close

or as a stationary mmg

so it felt super situational

like maybe it has a higher rof than bfv's but you're also matched against guns that have 100x the rof like thompsons and stuff that have pretty much the same kill range due the map sizes

not to mention the reloading times and sprint to fire

it's soo slow. imagine the cycle rate and zooming of the bolties in bfv and that's the bren in vanguard. while mp40s and stgs instantly reload and ads
