They're both standard conquest, one just focuses more on infantry, and the other more on vehicles

A pity there is not a version of Battlefield Desert Combat and Battlefield Forgotten Hope. Excellent mods. (Tbh its high time DICE created a DLC pack that gave players all the tools they needed to create their own mods and levels for the current games, that way the drip fed content once in a blue moon wont be the only reason people play and the player made content will keep people playing more without EA paying for any content created)
(But then again, the BF Devs might be shown up by Mr. Basement dweller who creates a brand new mod and a whole campaign of maps in 4 months when they have a team of Devs who can barely release a single map on deadline)

Lets be honest, flying planes, jets, helis or whatever else is the easiest thing there is in gaming, its not hard to understand it, in fact its almost instinctual for players. If you need a test range to practice on you are likely not going to be a good player, just a free kill in the sky or someone taking a vehicle that another player could use better.
Some people just have the ability for vehicles, some are better without. In battlefield some players are good at everything some are good at nothing. Practising isn't going to help you get better at something you have no talent for. Instead perhaps work on how to kill the thing you cannot fly. And become a roaming beast instead of mindless sheep.

You wana learn how to fly, go to Battlefield 1942 and make a server with bots, then play Japanese and try get a plane off the carrier. Make sure you set there to be no bots on your team, so you always get the planes, then make it so vehicles respawn every second.
If you can get a plane off the Deck in your first 3 tries you might be a good pilot. If you cannot, its not for you. The reason i am blunt with this is, that by the third time you should have worked out what you did wrong, even if you crash after getting it off the deck for a while, there is promise because you are problem solving the situation.
This is what i am getting at here.
Pilots need to problem solve rapidly, same with good heli pilots. If you cannot figure out what to do, then when it comes to actual combat you'll be annihilated without a chance and you wont be able to figure it out cause you wont be given the time.
Same goes for tanking, its not just about driving into area and blasting away, you need to be able to problem solve, where can they spawn, where can i not hit, where can i place myself so i wont be hit, where is safe to turn the back of my tank, what wall can hit to do splash damage, what walls should i knock out to get more visibility, what building can i destroy that might give me problems? ... and so on. Pilots do the same thing and if you cannot work out how to lift off from the carrier in BF1942, then your not a pilot. simple as. After... if you do, try work out how to build momentum to stay in the sky. And so on. You master BF1942 flying and you would be an ace in any of the games.

ye, you see all BFs after BF2 you get propelled forward, you don't even have a say in the matter. Flying got considerably more easy when you don't need to control your engine or build momentum like in BF1942 to dive and pull up.
BF1942 is the hardest flying has been because not only did you need to build up speed to get into the sky but you couldnt just go straight up because you wouldnt have the speed or the propulsion. You had to build it gradually, once you had the height though, you could dive and then pull up with so much speed that you were barely visible to those on the ground. Which makes sense.
Now however in current day BFs since BF3, you are forced forward, in BF1, you cannot even stop if you land the plane, its always pushing you forward.
So learning to fly in current BFs isn't logical since you don't need to worry about propulsion. However like is said, in BF1942 you need to learn it yourself and it will teach you more than just making waves on a bar chart, it will teach you how to angle the wings, how to roll the plane, spin and so on, because you control everything and any wrong move if not done the correct way will just making you fall from the sky and go into a death dive.

Although most people squeal when a person says this, 'I am an ACE in any vehicle', it is true and i have trained many many people over the years. We use to train people to fly helicopters using Desert Combat because BFDC use to be like ice-skating with your mouse. You had so much to do to steady a chopper and if you could fly into a barn kill players while hovering inside, then you had mastered the training. Again, current days BFs have removed and refined some of the controls so training in BFDC or even BF:V (Vietnam) would make you a pro. Especially in BF:V if you can fly a loop backwards, to evade heatseekers at point blank range 😄

So, yes i am perfectly fine, you may not like what i am saying but it is for your benefit. If you crash a plane all the time, then maybe your just not a pilot type. No shame in saying, no humiliation or ridicule in admitting you cannot do something. If you want to know for sure if you can fly, try BF1942 and do as i said, if not then you'll just be wasting a valuable vehicle that could win your team the game, to figure out your not a pilot.

Try holding your breath. The prompt doesn't come up when using iron sights, but it still works.

Technically, using the mortar was actually a more difficult affair in 1.

While you could see where those shells were going, you had to deal with the fact that people were not marked on the map by their own fire.

Plus the low range requiring you to be set up close to the front, with a low arc resulting in many a shell getting caught by nearby buildings.

I've seen several mortar operators blow themselves up, somehow.

Though Prise De Tahure has a specific problem where mortar trucks could hide in spawn, behind a row of houses, and happily bombard like half the map without any form of response being possible.

I've been having a running argument with a friend who refuses to try BFV (because of the women), and whenever I mention the hit detection, it's just a wave of "you're bad", which I am, but BF4 unironically feels terrible to play now that I'm used to V
