maps are super linear and obviously tailored for the smaller modes. they're just build to make you see enemies from the front and goat you into meatgrinder chokepoints. most maps just end up in spawn camping the enemy due the way they are designed, no real flanking opportunities. The weaponry sucks ass and is mostly experimental stuff for its era. They also feel like shit due the amped up rng bullet deviation. you could have you crosshair deadset on an enemy and it would still miss all its shots. Axis forces uses a ton of allied equipment like french and british tanks, have just a bunch of recoloured outfits. it doesnt feel like a real ww1 game at all due none of the launch maps even had real trench warfare. amiens never even happened and so on. it's litterally if battlefield had mated with battlefront games and that's battlefield 1. i rather play 3 or v.

i mean, bf1 did atmosphere extremely well and its presentation. with the cutscenes and post processing. but the maps just don't feel fun to play imo. meanwhile, bfv made some dubious choices when it comes to cosmetics (not faction locking the elites) that hurted its presentation; and due the maps are all early war and thus less wartorn it might feel a tad pristine (damage comes from the players) but the maps feel much more fun to play due the way they are designed with proper flanking routes etc.
