The film's perspective is intentionally limited and visceral. They only give you one shot of the landscape until after the soldiers have taken the beach, and the shot from the bluffs looking down is pretty damn accurate considering it's a different beach. You are right that the German fortifications were lower and set into the land, and consisted more of multiple sandbag gun crews (which are in the film) and not a looming bunker. Still, you only see a tiny bit of beach in the film. The camera sticks with Hanks pretty much the whole time, and the only time you see the beach during the shooting is when the guys are swimming ashore, and it's a pretty tight frame. So I think the movie does OK, except for the giant pillbox.

Rare battles was definitely a good idea. They just didnt give the player any historical context to these events. No codex and no operation voice overs. So it felt like the middle of nowhere.

There was Solomon Islands, then they overhauled Europe. They added the US to Twisted Steel, Panzerstorm, and Provence which they basically remade into an entirely new map, as well as adding Al Marj Encampment which is one of the better weapons in game, on top of a ton of skins and weapons
