Oh yes, so what MW did was every 10 tiers, you get a skin, but then there were 4 of the skins (of the same character) and you would do challenges of that character, the new guns were free, and there were mostly locked cosmetics but a few free ones, with 300 free credits which I think made everyone happy, which doesn't seem like communities are divided by battlepasses, but instead bring more content to the game.
