I see, dont know what cod uses i dont play that lul. Line trace in ue4 is used to calculate start/end point of a hit. You can either do instant damage at the end point or spawn an actual projectile at start point, which will then fly directly towards and hit the end point if you example have no gravitiy or any forces applied. In fortnite snipers and rocket launchers have actual projectiles the rest is just instant hit at where you aim.
