My question is, do I need EA play to play BF1 now?

Since I bought the game and premium, I would think that I can play it without EA play. But because I upgraded it, do you think it would lock it?

You can tell when it's available when there's a number 1 or above on it.

Typically you can see it like 2/2 at the beginning

Heres the thing that I like about specs that I think has been overlooked up until this point. By getting a gun raw, with notable flaws, it allows you to decide "Ok, here's what I like and don't like about this gun. What do I want to make better, and what can I live with being sub-par?" If you just get a weapon that is just good with no improvements, where's the incentive to learn the quirks of the weapon? Where's the sense of accomplishment?

I certainly can compete. I just don't like the system. As I said, it feels cheap to just say "here pay 300cc now this is magically better".
