bfv had 'never before seen scale' with the largest single structure in any battlefield game (the twisted steel bridge) and Hamada being the largest multiplayer map in the franchise, bf1 had the first iteration of operations which was something completely new, it also had the largest player-controlled vehicles

Well BFV did have un-scripted destruction, but it was segmented. With the effects of the crumbling bits being calculated on the go, but it was still segmented so you would assume that if you shoot a wall, only that part of the wall will fall down etc.
The next step would be procedural destruction on a larger scale, one segment affecting the other
