BF1 worked off of warbonds awarded at each rank to unlock weapons. BFV unlocks weapons with rank but you need company coin to upgrade them. BF4 unlocked through level mostly, though with the odd battlepack thrown in to unlock certain items randomly.
But consistently in every CoD, you just earn off of rank progression. Theres an overall, and theres weapon specific
