I think a grind is only good in a game when it is a design decision to use it as a progression system because it makes the game better/more fun or is the core of the game (MMORPG?). However, I dislike when a game is grindy only for the purpose of monetization, like to sell purchasable XP boosts, level skips, unlock packs that completely skip the grind, etc...
