And no, they haven't. Any pub match I played in titles pre 2019 are completely different. Fast forward to games like Apex and MW 2019 and the engagement matchmaking is completely different to the point anyone remotely skilled understood that solo queue was impossible, wins felt hilariously easy and losses felt inevitable, and you'd often end up in servers much farther from your nearby GC because it didn't care about your connection.

It is to the point people actually have more fun in ranked because their matches are easier. So if ranked ladder is easier than pubs then clearly there's a significant difference and glaring issue.

Modern matchmaking only exists to play off the average person's psychology to balance out the chase for wins and losses, and to protect ultra casual players for retention so you can farm battlepasses and cosmetic rollout.
