LMGs just throw some agility hinderance in there its not like suppression functions like it did in bf 3/4/1. I don't think players should be forced to play engineer when the fight moves into close quarters not like their gadgets are always useful indoors either. Yes the shotgun helps but situational. Sure DMRs fill the range gap between the weapon types to fit longer range engagements. Snipers are a niche weapon type they have their uses and powerful with sweetspot mechanic its really the only issue but even then counter sniping is always an option.

The point of locked weapons is to reinforce the main play style of that class. Assault is an aggressive jack of all trades, Engineer is about defending themselves while they support the armour, support is about laying down cover fire from behind as they push up with the team, and recon works better at the backline

I get that. But I would much rather people use a weapon they are effective with than equipment and gadgets they do not use. With open weapons there actually might be more team play for this reason. Can use class your effective with in combination with weapons your effective with. I am a player that tries to fill the gaps in the team with what is needed but i play support mainly. It was nice to get familiar with a weapon and use it to drop in and fall in to whatever role was needed in the beta. Found new ways to play classes. In pervious battlefields I just didnt play certain classes if I didnt enjoy their weapons 🤷‍♂️ that issue is gone in open weapons thats all.
