AWS and other Cloud vendors, allocate server resources by virtual cores most of the time. This means there will be servers with 10-20% left over. They allow companies to rent these small slices for instance discounts with the cavet that they may be destroyed at anytime after 1 hour. This is PERFECT for game VM's where matches only last 30-45 minutes.

This is why most game companies these days do match making like this. While people are in a lobby, the server is spun up, the second the match is over it's destroyed.

The downside of AWS Spot is from what I remember, the left over resources may very well be on another region. Hence it might backfire when it comes to ping heavy applications such as a game server. But in general I agree with you. :)

I disagree, BO2 added much, much more to the series than MW2 did, they're both peak cod though. MW2 is a complete disaster from a game design perspective but everything is so broken and stupid that it somehow inverts and becomes the most dumb fun in a multiplayer shooter. BO2 had vastly superior game design elements and it's definitely one of the most balanced and well-thought out titles, pick 10 is an excellent system and the streaks aren't complete curbstomp snowballers like they are in MW2
