A) Being able to access those gadgets should have a trade off, and being able to access the weapon type you like should as well. It's an easy way to have that trade-off in the game. B) How the classes function and feel is literally game design. You said this earlier in the conversation. C) Not exactly. If I am engaging a player from 50 M, I will be much more agressive if they have a longer ranged weapon, and will hang back if they have a closer ranged weapon. Being able to see what the class is by the skin and making that split-second judgement is only possible in a locked weapons system
