By design its never been close. By acquiring DICE in 2006 and the moment they invested in Frostbite was the best decision EA has made. From 2009 onwards Frostbite 2 BFBC2 has been the benchmark leading game engine and sandbox land, sea, air. Destruction and Extreme weather in BF3 BF4 have been winning features that benefit immersion and atmosphere. Levelution was a nice to have/bit of fun. Floodzone was so well designed Levelution that changed the map gameplay environs completely. Was very clever, even though it sucked for clan matches as one of the 3 CQ flags (the service station) was screwed if you held it, as was harder to play/spawn from. --- How peeps have played COD after Black Ops which was the last decent one, is beyond me. Ive been a BF ambassador since 2005 even though I put some COD time in and met a lot of new local friends, my og xbox BF2MC friends from US are some of my mates still today. I have always tried to bring my COD and Aus/NZ xbox community mates into the superior gaming experience of Battlefield on BFBC2, BF3 but they are stubborn, stuck in their franchise. Probs gonna ignore BF6 and buy in on B07. Sad but theres nothing we can do or say to these people.

2042 was competing with Halo Infinite and Vanguard. BF6 is only competing with BO7. BO7 has far worse public reception than Vanguard. Not necessarily due to BO7 itself but due to COD slop fatigue.

Halo Infinite was actually good too when it was released. They just stopped supporting the game which is why it fell off.
