One thing they could do is give negatives to using weapon classes that "aren't meant for that class"
I.e. a sniper on an assault player doesn't get hold breath and has more scope sway
Or LMGs on recon give more recoil
(Think of it as a class doesn't have the proper training with weapons they don't specialize in, so there will be negatives)

Since people won't watch the video I posted here's a tl;dr why weapons should be restricted:

• Better readability, if you see someone using RPG, you know they are engineer with SMGs, you don't go near that person
• If you see someone having a scope glint you know they are a recon, you stay out of their sight and try to flank them or shoot them to force them into cover
  Why 2042 system doesn't work:
• If you see a scope glint you assume that person is a sniper when they are actually a Dozer waiting to use their shield when you try to flank them
• If you see someone using RPG you have no idea what they are using, they might have anything ranging from snipers to SMGs, you can't make decisions based on their classes
• 2042 felt very unfinished and content-less despite having more weapons than a game like 2142 despite 2142 having less weapons, because 2142 has hard set classes

Enders is one of those people who, when determining what is best for the game, hyperfocuses on gameplay alone, and on the aspects of fair competition. Its a common misconception that this is the only thing that matters and is usually common among people who get really into a game, as its the easiest thing for them to analyse and the aspect of the game more up to change.
More casual players however, especially for a game like BF, arent usually being drawn to that. A 32 vs 32 game where you repeatedly get instantly nuked by helicopters isnt exactly the biggest magnet for people who really want to sweat. But the people who fall into that aforementioned trap usually confuse this for ignorance, and out of any youtubers Ender is easily the biggest example of that.

Battlefield needs to be Battlefield. Not CoD, not Fortnite. It's short sighted doing it for cosmetics. If this game fails because they don't listen to the core Battlefield players then Battlefield will fail as a whole. Keep it simple, build a game which combines the best from the older titles like 3 and 4 and you'll get people back on side. The fps world is crying out for something more grounded and BF3/4 like. Clear, defined classes with class locked weapons. No named soldiers. No silly cosmetics. No terrible, CoD like SBMM. Server browser with custom servers. Gritty, war-torn feel.

@coral basin People are grossly overestimating the thought process in peoples brains when they play Battlefield. No one plays Battlefield overly thinking about what weapons the enemy is carrying. Most people are just running in an shooting and dying. There's no time to think about what class the enemy and what gun they are using at any time. It's always been I see enemy, I shoot them. Yes, there are times if there's a medic you can assume they are reviving someone behind a rock you just killed. But most times there is so much happening in the fire fight it really doesn't matter since there are so many variables happening at the same time.
