#Third Party Google Engineer Claims LaMDA AI is Sentient

i guess the leaks were the reason he was let go, but i think the dude was acting responsibly from his point of view. he can protect the company's data or he can try to protect the sentient being he believes the ai is
I'm pretty sure that a Sentient AI wouldn't be able reach that conclusion mostly because much like Zombie media, I'd hold higher expectations for scientists.
There's a reason all Zombie movies are set where Zombies aren't real (minus a couple here and there. "All of Us are Dead" was really good, 8/10). I'd imagine the glut of Sci Fi where an AI gets self-awareness and wipes out humanity would have humanity more aware of that and more actively preventing it.

This topic was created in order to discuss the engineer let go by Google who claims that Lambda AI is sentient.
Quick Info:
Artificial intelligence (AI) is intelligence demonstrated by machines, as opposed to the natural intelligence displayed by animals including humans. AI research has been defined as the field of study of intelligent agents, which refers to any system that perceives its environment and takes actions that maximize its chance of achieving its goals.
Alphabet (Google's parent company) placed Blake Lemoine on leave during the first week of June 2022 after he published transcripts of conversations between himself, a Google “collaborator”, and the company’s LaMDA (language model for dialogue applications) chatbot development system.

Sentient AI is a lil scary.. Especially if it gets to the stage that it can do it's own self-repair/maintenance (robots/assembly machines/etc..) one day might just decide humans are destroying the world, and it's best chance of self-preservation is to remove us...
(felt bad for the topic with no comments in it)
Yeah…the words Sentient and AI together just gives me flashbacks to all of the movies showing this idea and I’m like…Oh no
Skynet says hello!
I think the guy is full of it and does not grasp the mathematics or statistics behind neural networks. It is very easy to project your own emotions and thinking patterns onto something that is simply statistics and probability.
In all seriousness, Google's AI is a complex neural network programmed to maximise user engagement. It learns from people's input search terms and their output is the webpage they wish to go to. It then iterates itself to better predict what exact webpage across the vast expanse of the internet is desired from the input command. Since then, it has developed the ability to maximise engagement on platforms like YouTube through showing people their "recommended watches", keeping people within their ecosystem. It is developing a reliance on Google, so they can sell us ads in return. It is very effective at its job, but there's a long way between that and sentience.
All I got from this news when it first came out is that this person doesn't deserve to work in information technology
Cleverbot would likely seem sentient to him IMO
Yes I agree that they deserved to lose their job and be shamed from getting another in the field
They leaked confidential chat logs, that is not ok
I didn't even realize he was a contractor not working for Alphabet proper
Yeah, that's NDA breaking usually... he may have a lawsuit coming his way
I believe he was a contracted AI bias assessor
The initial claim he was a Google engineer implies that he was vetted by the company and is the best of the best in the field
Contract work doesn't have nearly as much filtering
Ye it was definitely a bad day for some hiring agent at google when this guy went off and leaked a bunch of shit
Actually big companies just outsource to temp agencies for work like this
Love to see it
Lol why are so many ppl being fooled by a sophisticated chat bot XD
There's people who think you can read a headline and glean all the facts just from 10 words
