I don't directly intend to do this for now, I want the systems to work, but I already think about a menu system where mods could register subentries of any level:

  • on the settings page entries will get indented but unfortunately I cannot hide entries,
  • on the selection screen I think it would be a treeview (if you select a folder, it will unfold, if you select something outside that folder it will fold back)

The idea is that options on the settings page is for admins and selection screen is intended for players
Any entry can be disabled for players because sometimes you don't want player to directly spawn on aquilo or only allow to be in orbit of vulcanus, fulgora or gleba.
Generally speaking, each alternate start mods should have a restricted set of entries.
I think I will provide some general fix for each planets and then non standard scenarios could use thoses fixes.

The reason that took me here is that:

  • Any Planet Start is quite impresive but it's a one time selection, it doesn't fit a scenario of player each on their planets on a server.
  • Planet Picker and Planet Picket Mod friendly allows each players to select a planet to start from, but it don't have modularity in mind

I got the idea by reminding me of a skyrim mod: Alternate Start - Live Another Life

I wanted :

  • to give an option for both path, either solo or multiplayer
  • handling not only planet start, but also space platforms starts and with a variety of modifiers
  • having the possibility to use selection strategy like balanced random, teamed selection, waiting for admin to select
  • to give a common branding for alternate starts (meaning thing where you start differently but still use the freeplay scenario)
  • to have a minimalist but fully modular system, meaning the framework could be used with a wide variety of scenarios without getting in the way
