Hello, so I've been trying to design a rocket fuel maker for like an hour now, and i physically cant. I've scouted every blueprint site i know and everyone uses coal liquefaction there, which i still haven't unlocked. I would maybe like a blueprint for rocket fuel, thank you.

How far did you get with your own design efforts?

i made a ton of spahetti with cracking and stuff, but then failed at the solid fuel into rocket fuel that also needs light oil

I found it easier to make a dedicated build that makes RF from Crude Oil.
All Petroleum Gas being turned into Solid Fuel, which isn't as efficient, but makes designing it a lot easier.

#

If you do it like that, you want to crack all Heavy Oil into Light Oil.
And turn all PetGas into Solid Fuel. No Light Oil cracking.

#

Then you need some more SF, which you make from Light Oil.
And ofc the actual RF recipe.
When using SF in the RF recipe, you want to prioritise the SF from PG though. This is the hardest part of the whole thing.

#

Can you show us what you made so far?

ah that sucks

Designing stuff is one of the core things of Factorio. Requesting/using bps from others is giving up all the fun.
We can help you with design it yourself. Do my messages above help you get started again?

@safe drift why do you need a standalone rocket fuel setup?

#

Just take a pipe from your light oil and attach it to chemplants and assemblers making solid fuel and rocket fuel
It doesnt need to be pretty and DO NOT grab bps from the internet if you're inexperienced you cant figure out whats good and whats bad and most bps online are dogshit

I feel you, I'd say feel free to take breaks if the game starts to be frustrating, it's genuinely hard to come up with something, especially with oil, I'd say just trust the process
If you're only interested in rocket fuel and not in other oil byproducts, then you can see that you could do everything with light oil (since rocket fuel needs solid fuel and light oil, and you can make solid fuel out of light oil), which boils everything down to one liquid
So a first question could be "can I transform crude oil to light oil only ? If not, to how much fluids can I reduce myself ?", maybe this is a nice first goal

#

But as Cryochick points out I think you rarely use oil only for rocket fuel, you also need it for plastic and sulfur with petroleum gas, which (strangely enough as it adds more ingredients) might make your life easier since you can use light oil only to make rocket fuel and just dump the petroleum gas in your sulfur/plastic factory

Yea for science you only need about 5% of the heavy and 45% of the light the rest is cracked into petrol

#

Thats without cracking

I run a crude oil cracking setup with circuits that keeps a minimum of each product on hand. It's attached to a gas->solid power plant but could easily be adapted to your purpose.

with just crude -> rocket fuel as the goal, can crack all of the heavy, and just use gas solid fuel with a priority splitter

hello, so after reading some of the messages sent here i finally designed a shitty looking rocket fuel maker, and even launched my first rocket! im in space age tho so i still have a lot left. but anyway, i wanted to greatly thank everyone in this thread, even though that seems incredibly corny. I wouldn't have done this without you, random people on the internet

Yeah, sometimes all that's needed is a little outside encouragement to keep going.
Thanks for checking back in.
