Hah, it is kind of coincidental that came out right about when i started working on this concept
I should try out the new cosmoteer update

necessarily
im just too busy adding the near void to TFMG
This looks awesome!
Thanks
laser turrets should produce a lot of heat when you think about it
If I find an acceptable way to apply the thermal system to them
They will likely get it
They’d also probably one of the things that have the thermal system even on the surface
Laser turrets will also probably be the first turret you get
And then maybe a canon turret, or a combat robot deployer (though maybe I just do that for a spidertron)
reskinning the collector to be a drone port would be cool 👀
Ahh like little space drones come to scoop up the asteroids
That’s actually a sick idea
Certainly not easy to do, but it’s going in the Wishlist
To elaborate, since this all takes place in a far future factorio, where we’re already far beyond the engineers tech level. (In theory)
I think it would be cool if the weapons that SELF built were massively more powerful, gun turrets replaced with heavy duty auto cannons and other such unnecessarily brutal weaponry.
Spiders which deploy combat robots too, I feel would fit this high tech and threatening vibe
Plus it uses combat robots which I think are a very cool but under-utilised feature in factorio
When it comes to designing the actual buildings, weapons etc, I want to keep working in that super advanced, made by super intelligence style.
The radiators I think are the prime example od the direction I want to go, (though. Hopefully as I get more practice I can make some more detailed models)
But compared to the engineer, SELF builds fairly clean and angular designs
I’ll try and do designs that use more truss structures without plating, since SELF wouldn’t care for asthetics, they’re pure function.
great new sprite, but the feather effect gets lost ingame
Exposed heat pipes and such, which isn’t too different from the engineer
Yeah when I redo the sprite I’ll probably go fewer ridges
It was initially meant for a 3x6 object but I ended up scaling it down to 1x5 because I liked how that felt in gameplay better
But it’s hard to adjust the number of ridges retroactively without redoing the whole thing from scratch
careful with that, it usually leads to weird looking sprites when zoomed in
Oh no I did fully rerender it at the correct size
So no issues there
The only reason I didn’t change the ridges was that it would require me to redo most of the model and I just don’t think it’s quite worth spending that much time on
All models in making rn are basically less detailed prototypes of what I’d like to do finally
It’s just, I don’t have all the skills id like to have when it comes to making them
I think it’s more worthwhile I make more, simpler models quickly, to build up my skills and then I can go back over when the mod is closer to completion
Simpler sprites also provide me the benifit of being easier to adjust if I decide to resize the building or something
TLDR; I’m preparing for this mod to take a long ass time to finish
And that’s okay
Working on it has been really fun
