#Are trees permanently damaged from pollution?

I know that once a tree drops down to a lower leaf density, it cant regrow back. But what if it stops absorbing pollution just before it drops down from one tier, will it regen back up (while still remaining in the tier it's currently at)?

In other words, is pollution damage done to trees permanent and one-way, like their ''pollution health'' can ONLY decrease and thats it?

kk thx

and btw when the pollution tab says some trees have been damaged (with the red X), does it mean some trees died or they only dropped by a tier?

if the pollution in a chunk is less than a certain amount, trees will absorb it without taking damage. if pollution is higher than that amount, trees will absorb even more pollution but drop themselves by 1 tier. i believe the specific pollution thresholds depend on the tree's tier

In SA they added an ability to plant trees so technically the damage could then be considered non-permanent as you could replace damaged trees given enough effort.

i tried looking in the trees wiki but its not showing

the downside is planting those trees all look the same, and automating will create a grid instead of a forest

Every single tree absorbs a small amount of pollution in its chunk per second. If the total pollution in a chunk is above 60 units, once per second some of the trees in that chunk each have a chance to either lose one stage of leaves (33% or 50% damage) or have their leaves become one stage more gray (6.7% damage). Regardless of whether the tree loses leaves or gets grayer, 10 pollution are absorbed by the tree.
