#Can somebody help or explain rail signals and rail chain signals.

Overall the basics is rail signal is 'if the next block is clear continue through'
btw i could invite smbd to my world to check the place i need them
yeah explain simpler
Chain is 'if the path all the way to the next signal or to it's destination is clear go through'
There's LITERALLY not a simpler way to describe them
i nead 2 trains in the same spot and everything i try don't work
Why don't you show us what you're working with
hold on
mb i cant
a train comes from the top and another from the bottom intersection
i want them to not ram each other and to stop in the same spot
signals separate tracks into blocks. those are the colored lines which appear on rails when you hold a signal in hand.
if there's a train in the block ahead of the signal, then the signal is red
you have only 2 blocks in that screenshot, and each block has a train in it, so the signals are red and neither train will move
yeah and i kinda nead them to move
you need to add a couple of rail signals along the path, to add more blocks
in general, along regular rails with no intersections or crossings, you should put
every train-length or so
Every block can only contain 1 train no matter what
Manually driving can break this, but I wouldn't recommend manually driving trains around
i tried smth and it may be working
its goofy spam of chains but it seems to be working
You only need chains if there's somewhere you NEVER want a train to stop
Example. Across an intersection
they both just stopped and i had to remove some signals to start them moving
the issue is i cant undertand it
my firend hopped on and hes just browsing the wiki
yeah you need rail signals for chain signals to work.
Are those your ONLY two signals?
Not exactly true
yes
There's your problem
Not signal types
Each train is in the block the other one wants to go into
how could i fix that
More signals
I'd recommend making each station its own segregated block at the bare minimum
Each block can only contain 1 train
If you have 2 blocks and 2 trains there's no way for the trains to leave their blocks
Do you have 1 or 2 directional Rail?
looking at the map you seem to have some 2 directional pieces. Where there is only 1 Rail for Both directions.
Correct me if I'm wrong. It looks like you have 2 Oil Outposts. each with its dedicated Train. going to a central Oil Drop off for the refinery.
Ok, I would need a Bigger Screenshot of the central drop of, with both of the junctions included. to draw in a working setup. Otherwise I'll be open to explain it ingame.
thx let me send you a picture
i dont nead to change the train station names bc in all of them there is only 1 train
so ez to understand
before I start. Do you have problems differentiating certain colors?
just wanna mention that the wiki has some nice pictures explaining the train signals: https://wiki.factorio.com/Tutorial:Train_signals maybe it can help you understand this better. Also check out the in-game tutorials for train signals (you can access them via the button above the minimap)
thx
Red is Rail Signal, Blue is Chain Signal. Without any other Signals at the fueling station the Red/Blue Signals can be Rail Signals. I would recommend Chain Signals to future proof it. Top can be done the same as bottom, but you didn't give me enough space. Well guess what you now have 2 options to do it ;)
Trains should wait outside of the loop until the station is free again. Meaning the other Train has left the loop. This should be the bare minimum Setup.
yk whats funny all this time the set up was running and not a single time the trains have collided xd
did you have a Train limit of 1 set?
nope
than it is only luck.
one just has a lot of oil and the other has a small ammount
bc one carries 9 pump jack the other only 2 failing oens
running good for 1-2h and then it will be an headache again.
but thinking of it setting the Train limit of he Refinery Station to 1 should fix all your problems too.
same happened with my iron
no signals needed.
Definitely not, it's the recommended way to deal with biters.
Probably best to use some turrets as safe guard though.
i only put some in one of my oil places because its too far away for me to respon in case of emergency
but i just always look at statistics too see if my pollution is abosrbed by them
last run I even went so far as to cover my pollution cloud with radars
was using efficiency modules though to keep the cloud small
crazy
i hate turrets bc it takes away the War thunder feeling of driving tanks with your homies to them nests
funnily enough you can almost do an entire train network without train signals, and only use chain signals
put train signals wheere you want trains to be able to stop
yeah, Factorio allows you to get away with a lot of nonsense
there is no "best" in Factorio
Since Uranium ore is abundant relative to the consumption, productivity modules are in this case not the best choice.
If you want to keep pollution down, use efficiency. If you want throughput, use speed.
Or a mix of both.
don't forget beacons exist
