The only way i know of is to precisely place and resize a camera gui element.
I do wonder if it would be feasible to make it seamless and even allow placing buildings in the middle of a portal, to allow creating a world that loops around
yes, I also spent a while thinking about how to make toroidal geometries work
for that a better avenue would likely be to clone any entities that get created every period. there are some interesting challenges with making units like biters work, but if the toroidal period is sufficiently large then those effects can be washed away
camera gui is correct. turns out to have lots of difficult details that I didn’t appreciate at first
Yeah and i can see its not perfect, but its exciting that this is possible
yes, and there’s already a lot of code behind the scenes to make it as smooth as that
Always wondered if it would be feasible. Could also try some "segmented" portallike transitions if the area is big enough

the code is general coordinate transformations of any map gen, that image is all of nauvis projected down into a poincare disk
as in this mc escher image. here is vulcanus too
it came out looking like it was inspired by Cerys, but that wasn’t the intent

Can both the ideas be combined to create a surface that loops in all directions (or atleast horizontally)? Just like 3D spherical planets, you end up where you started and it actually looks the part too!
I’ve been discussing that with some other modders, it will probably happen 😄
the only issue i can predict is when heading "north" along a planet and looping to the other hemisphere, which side should be up?
