Combinator Potluck

I am gonna try to organize a combinator themed event on a short lived factorio server, calling it a combinator potluck. Everybody can bring all their cool weird combinator contraptions to a shared server, and show them off and exchange em and whatnot.

We are also going to have challenges (solo or team) that will require utilizing your existing combinators and your overall combinator skills to solve, for fun and as a way to show show off your cool combinator contraptions and share them 😄

I'm still thinking on that, but I was thinking a multiplayer hosted server with a bunch of fun logistical and technical challenges that people can try to solve (together or alone) by busting out their pre-built combinators, and designing new ones together

Among other things, maybe an area in the factory just for chilling and relaxed design stuff

But yeah, a hosted server event thats only up for day

sounds cool. though if space age is a requirement, I wouldn't be able to participate.
seems like the current trend for combinator design is all about space age as i see a lot of the content requires combinator to be optimal.

Yeah I'll be honest I have no idea what is and isn't space age and 2.0 off the top of my head

cause I never tried one wthoout the other yet

i think it would be great if we have more activity besides monthly-map, especially one that isn't a a month-long participation. something like a "combinator fair" would be great for newbies and veteran alike. especially newbies.

basically anything you get outside of nauvis that wasn't in 1.1 is space age exclusive.

Say thanks and bring some coolstuf with you to the event. The 35$m is clearly gonna bring you a lot more joy and hapiness than anything I could possibly spend it on if what you said is true. Just don't gush about it after this ok 😄

for sure! gushing was a bad way for me to put it. I just don't want you to feel indebted or feel the need to keep saying thanks afterwards

While not exactly relevant to this particular potluck, it would be good to collect together some useful simple combinator setups into one thread or pinned message

Things like a clock, a SR latch, a for each SR latch, the sqrt function, the numeric display setup, ...

And whatever else useful contraptions people can think of that others would find useful

Do you know what the best collaborative tools are for something like this?

Is there like, a git for factorio prints?

Honestly, not really sure, but since a lot people come to this discord it could just be collected here

Make a thread, start curating a list of useful contraptions. And then hope a mod pins it.

The only issue is there's no real way to stop that getting cluttered by other people commenting, but not sure what can be done about that XD

Yeah, and also it really needs some way to track versions of it, so people find the one thats not broken, some sort of searching. A thread would be cool but I just feel like if it didn't provide an effective way of doing what its intended, it wouldn't get used and I'm not feeling ambitious enough to try to come solve those gaps lol.

i think someone made a similar thread for it in gameplay showcase. iirc it was meddleman?

would be great if we could have a forum channel for combinators. can we ask that to the server moderators?
if the combinator is broken, people can give react to them to let others know.
