Pollution spread would be the only real issue. Grass tiles absorb slightly more pollution than sand tiles. Although if you have enough water around, it's offset pretty decently

Grass/Dirt = -0.000018 Pollution per tile per second
Sand/Desert = -0.000015 Pollution per tile per second.
So a grass/dirt tile is about 20% more effective
As long as you have resources, and biters are not extinct, should be fine.

is just having 2 small iron patches in a 40+ chunk radius a problem?
also both are beggining to run out
i think i should restart and set higher concentration on ores
Seems strange for standard map gen to produce so little iron ore. Assuming it really is 40+ chunks.
