id like to have a 1.1 and 2.0 version. I have an old 1.1 modded save going through steam which id like to finish.
However when i downloaded a spaceage version from the factorio website, it opens and shares all my save files and mods and stuff, and i dont want to disable all the mods, because then i might miss some when i need to re-enable them for my 1.1 modded save. any advice as to how i can fix this issue?

The save files themselves record their version and mod configuration. When you open a save that has different mods than what you currently have enabled, a prompt will open asking if you would like to switch your mods to match the save

#

If you are frequently switching between 1.1 and 2.0 this might mean you have to reload the game frequently, but you shouldnt be able to open a save from the wrong version without the game giving you a warning

That is a fault of the mod developers. They need to set the valid version range to be >1.1 & <2.0

You can also download manually from the mod portal website

Did you download the standalone zipped version from the website?

#

It should be completely separate from a steam install.

#

Then you can copy the steam save file over to the standalone directory

I have Steam updated to 2.0, and I downloaded the Standalone Zip from the Factorio website to run 1.1. I just needed to copy over my game saves and BPs from the default folders to the standalone's folders

You can have separate mod folders with a 1.1 game shortcut pointing to the 1.1 mod folder and a 2.0 game shortcut pointing to the 2.0 mod folder: https://www.reddit.com/r/factorio/comments/112e235/comment/j8jw8ru/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web3x&utm_name=web3xcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button. Mod folders don't even have to be in the game install directory. I made new folders in an external drive and copied over existing mod zip files, mod-list.json, and mod-settings.dat from the default folder.

wait so i need my steam to be 2.0, and the website download version to be 1.1, not the otherway around

and then it just works?
