#How viable are space stations?
1 messages · Page 1 of 1 (latest)
platforms can not interact they only send and recive from the planets . A ship is just a platform that you put engines ,defenses and fuel creation on.
your space science above nauvis you never have to put any defenses or engines on but almost any other you make past that you will need to to get any use out of.
Yes you can use space stations to drop down ores and other infinite materials as dropping stuff down is free. I turned my space science platform into an iron ore mine.
Given the cost of building a station it doesn't make much sense to do so though. On the other hand: space science is required to progress and has to be made in space
Technically the cost is an investment.
The return time is rather poor given the amount of steel it takes
But returns it will deliver! Eventually...
Gets better with later tech as you start to get materials like calcite to send down.
I agree. If it’s free then it seems like given enough time it’s worth it
The yield is also not that bad. Probably near 30 iron ore or more per second. Which can be priority consumed. For a small platform made for space science.
30 ore/s is a lot in the beginning of the run
it's not a lot when you can build space platforms
that won't stop me though :)
It is constant, free, though.
You could invest the resources required to build that platform into a couple miners and a train instead. ROI would be much higher. Not free, and not forever. But the higher ROI gets you even more miners.
How big are we talking for 30 per second? Can you go bigger to like 3k per second? Lol Factorio all about the scaling
Has issues scaling like that. You would need many platforms.
The density is quite low in orbits to discourage that sort of thing.
Size does apparently increase it a little, but not a super amount.
Ah darn
You can make a moving platform to collect the asteroids in transit I guess. Yield should be higher.
I have yet to get into space
so could i use a platform just to send and receive items from planet to planet, assuming you can send stuff both ways
Yes, if you have engines and defenses on a platform(sometimes called a ship) you can have it pick up items from nauvis for example and deliver it to Gleba and pick up items from gleba back to etc
