What's the go-to way to be able to make bases that aren't flawed from the start. So far all of my bases start with producing a main iron belt/ copper, eventually adding circuits to it etc. but then I get left with making later science with barely anything because all the iron will get consumed towards the beginning or some other thing like that. My current nauvis base has purple science only getting the opportunity to be made if my green circuit production isn't crippled. Trying to figure out how to make a better base, especially with making bigger bases on the new planets, as I'm trying to shift my main base over to Vulcanus for all science. Any pointers?

So the problem here is not enough resources
You can't make all sciences ratiod well from a single belt of iron
But I also think my fear to remake everything is what causes these early bottlenecks. Probably a bad habit that I'll need to overcome eventually
That's sort of what I have at the moment, so for the next base I definitely need more belts of a single resource
You can use an old base to build a new one by providing mats
Yeah secondary belts of things like iron, copper and green chips is nice, just one belt isn't going to be enough
Experience is obviously useful because you know what you need and have a good idea of when you want it so you can prepare for it
There's many solutions to lots of problems, if you need more iron you can mine more and smelt more at home, make a new smelter and bring ore in using a train/belt or mine and smelt at the outpost and bring a full train of iron/copper/steel in and just shove it in where resources are getting thin
Not bad, though very dense which makes things somewhat boxed in
stuff like taking out that red circuit build and producing circuits elsewhere may help a lot
Same for green circuits. If you can find iron and copper ore near each other you can just build an outpost for those and move them in by train
Majority of that was built before I had flamethrowers and didn't want to sit for an hour clearing a forest for space
That's some good insight actually, honestly it never crossed my mind to make stuff elsewhere and train it over
Making Blue or Green Chips or Steel outside and shipping it in makes an enormous difference for sure
Also good to remember that you can get massive belt throughput increases in Space Age though. Faster belts on Vulcanus, belt stacking on Gleba. Don't expand if the belt feeding something is already at capacity, but if you did go over capacity that's an issue that can be fixed quite easily later on
One more note while I'm looking over that minimap: try not to box yourself in too much with your walls. They can be a bit of a pain to move early on, so spending some extra time on giving yourself space is usually worth it.
So you're saying that it might just be an idea to leave that base as is, then use the tech gained to make future bases better resource wise, less cramped, and make different components off site, and shipping them over
I'm even saying the existing base can be fixed quite easily with that new tech
Oh about the walls, those were placed at the very very end just before I left for vulcanus, just in case biters got angry
