#Waste resource

Waste
It seems you are not the first intelligent entity on this planet. You found mountains of waste left there by an ancient civilization, containing valuable resource that just need some extraction steps.
This mod adds waste as a minable resource. It needs to be sorted, resulting into:
- Re-usable components
- Scrap
- Plastic waste
- Organic waste
- Anorganic waste
- Nuclear waste
- Water
Vanilla
The sorting is done in the assembler.
Space Age
The sorting is done in the recycler.
Space Exploration
The sorting is done in the recycling facility.
Reverse factory
The sorting is done in the reverse factory.
Re-usable components
Re-usable components can be sorted into various intermediates like circuit boards, batteries, etc.
Vanilla
Re-usable components are sorted in the assembler and result into:
- Electronic circuits (common)
- Advanced circuits (uncommon)
- Processing units (rare)
- Any science pack (very rare)
- Battery (rare)
- Low density structure (uncommon)
- Steel plate (uncommon)
- Iron gear wheel (common)
- Copper cable (common)
Use the reverse factory to disassemble the intermediates into more basic products.
Space Age
Re-usable components are sorted in the recycler and result into:
- Processing unit (2%)
- Advanced circuit (3%)
- Low density structure (1%)
- Steel plate (2%)
- Battery (2%)
- Iron gear wheel (12%)
- Copper cable (2%)
Use the recycler to disassemble the intermediates into more basic products.
Reverse factory
Re-usable components are sorted in the reverse factory.
Space Exploration
Re-usable components are sorted in the recycling facility and result into several (yet to be defined) intermediates.
Any other supported overhaul
The list of results will be adapted for a selected list of supported mods.
Scrap
Scrap can simply be recycled to various metallic ores.
Vanilla
Scrap is recycled in the assembler, resulting into iron ore and copper ore.
Space Age
Scrap from Fulgora is replaced by waste??? We need to make sure the planet still works.
Scrap is recycled in the recycler, resulting into iron ore, copper ore and holmium ore.
Space Exploration
The scrap added by Space Exploration is used. Then the normal processing takes place using the recycling facility.
Scrap Resource
The mod "Scrap resource" also adds scrap if Space Exploration is not active.
This mod uses that scrap and changes the recipe to return only metallic ores.
Plastic waste
Plastic waste can be recylced as well, resulting into ready-to-use plastic.
Vanilla
The recycling is done in a furnace resulting into plastic.
Organic waste
Vanilla
There are several uses for organic waste:
- Use the assembler to convert it to landfill.
- Burn it in a boiler.
- Convert it to light oil, petroleum and some steam in the oil refinery.
Space Age
Something with Gleba stuff?
Space Exploration
Organic waste can be used to boost the vitamelange processing.
Krastorio
Organic waste can either be converted to biomass in the biolab or used as fertilizer for an improved wood production.
Bio industries
Organic waste can be converted into fertilizer in the bio-reactor.

So what do you guys think about this? Do you have any additional ideas or suggestions?
2 notes:
- Adding "organic" products would add an additional challenge that is the key feature of Gleba. This may be good or bad depending on how each player responds to it, it will generally add more complexity to it. Maybe you can have different recipes: recycling in vanilla/elsewhere gives you "factory" products, recycling on Gleba gives you organic products. The recent FFF about Gleba is a good starting point to better understand this
- There is a fun scenario on RedMew called "DangerOres Scrap" where all the world is covered in scrap (also, you can't build on ore before mining it out) and you have to recycle your way out of scrap to the rocket. I think it's a very cool mechanic and I encourage you to explore something alike to find out what works best game-wise 😊
There are many questions about Space Age that I have that I could somehow get some answers today but I think it's easier to just wait the one more week and then just go into the game and directly look at it. Currently I'm missing too many pieces of the puzzle to know where to go with this with Space Age enabled. But yes, your idea sounds cool.
What's RedMew?
RedMew is a Factorio community for multiplayers and custom scenarios (https://redmew.com/)
This is a screenshot from the map I was mentioning above
water should be Ice in space if you want it to be realistic
True. Although on Nauvis water makes more sense. With 1.1. I can only separate different recipes by buildings. So I would need to restrict sorting with water result to machines bound to planet surfaces and the ice variant to machines that are only available in space. The recycling facility can be built both in space and on the ground.
I have no clue what new features 2.0 and Space Age offer to make this easier.
i would just make it water then lmao
