#Must Build Machines mod

hah, I've been calling it Construct In Place :P
(with an shortening that I always feel like should probably change of "cip")
lol yea
anyways, was wondering if a "blueprint" or "ghost" style graphic would work well for the build-in-place entity
like a mini "core" entity in the center, then a blueprint/ghost "area" around the core in the shape of the entity
that way it could be generated automatically through scripting
I'm not sure I understand the use case for this. Why not just build the thing directly?
Is it to add a "construction" duration to all buildings?
answering for penny, yes
you need to build the building in place, before you can use it
It's not really all buildings
It's any buildings with an area larger than a startup setting
It's because I fell in love with the idea of being forced to build a giant machine in place
i did think.. it really adds to the immersion of building a spaceship in SE or platforms in SA
and how you need to ship resources instead of machines
Oh that’s so cool. Like a real life construction site, you need to bring materials and supplies to the site instead of simply placing a bunch of prefab machines. That’s a really fun idea
Cool concept. How does it work with
?
It's very much in the prototype phase
So it basically doesn't :)
The plan is to use item request slots if I can (I'm pretty sure I learned that they just work)
And now as I realize that would be a runtime thing
I'm contemplating at what point I should be putting the technology to 'unlock' it
Just with construction bots, or a custom tech after it?
Probably just with construction bots
Imo its a gameplay thing, you do it yourself until you unlock bots, no reason to delay further
And means I have less art to obtain
make kitbash use ai obtain
blackmail BlackATM obtain
lmao
begs the question... how much blackmailing has been done...
would it be ATMmailing in this case?
Nah, I've just helped with the functional code for his mod Periodic Madness, and now I can lorde it over him and threaten to not help him in the future.
Considering I don't really know what I want, I'm not sure how well that'll work
Pretty much everything I've done for him is, "I see this as an issue and I want to fix it"
But let me tell you, my first entry into the codebase was scary with how little he initially cared about appearance (eg indentation)
lemme guess... no comments either
There were probably comments. But I didn't look at most of it as it's prototype definitions for an overhaul. So I just went through, cleaned up the formating, sprinkles annotations to get luals to shut up, fixed mistakes that were made because black accidentally silenced some warnings and didn't notice he used an incorrect field at one point.
Then I replaced his ingredient definitions to use functions replicating an extended shorthand because we're losing it

i would, sounds like a pain in the ass but i’d be happy to help
there were some comments but most of them werent serious or just small reminders
not much code to have to remind myself with if i already know the API
@gentle compass you're a genius. rocket silo. duh.
hey if you ever get back to this idea, i think it'd be cool to use the space platform build animation for these entities once built
