Yes, actually drawing.

(ok, maybe 70% drawing and 30% throwing random filters/patterns at the problem, but still mostly drawing)

Galdoc is a Blender wizard! All his icons are procedurally generated such that he can generate many variations of each similar to how the vanilla ores have a few variations.
