#1M SPM
1 messages · Page 1 of 1 (latest)
A major update comes with new optimizations and the developers have game developer grade computers
If optimizations are the reason I'm surprised they managed 10x.
Yeah I'm really surprised at 1M SPM
I would have been impressed at 100k SPM but 1M is crazy
Always keep in mind about 400% productivity, that some builds became 10 times faster (and 3 times more productive), and there are new buildings which are about 20 times faster than all else
But what is amazing is that 1M spm justs sounds so clean, perfect target for x1000 science run
Foundry and EMP do the heavy lifting.
Lab productivity goes from +20% to +50% iirc, a 25% increase.
and .. factory size has been measured in science packs consumed so far. The science produced is a new metric.
Could that be a hint at a science productivity research?
That’s not a hint. That’s confirmed already. Don’t remember in which FFF.
As there are more and more FFFs, I am in this scenario more and more often where this exchange happens:
A: that’s cool, is that evidence we will have X in 2.0/SA?
Me: that is already in 2.0/SA <FFF link<
A: oh yeah I remember now
It’s truly a testament to just how much is changing
And just imagine all the changes not mentioned we will only know at release
1M spm before it was cool. 😎

Yeah, but that was modded as I get it.
1 vanilla MSPM will work at 3 UPS in the best scenario on most powerful cpu
I think even that is optimistic because the power requirement was enormous which meant a few enormous solar fields and they are memory hungry
Well, I think 128 gigs are enough, as I get they are loaded once and then just sleeping
Memory is no issue. These can be moved to page file.
Yeah, eventually even on low RAM os moves all imporant to memory while pushing all not so crucial to pagefile
Nah ultimately needs to be processed which leads to the CPU waiting which reduces UPS
Not true
How about we just test it?
Solars don’t get touched
it has been tested. Check mulark’s benchmark site
this exact thing has been tested
sure, would you like a solar world that has 100M panels?
Yup
one second
do you have more than 64gb of memory?
otherwise you wont be able to load into it 😄
No, but I can slam the pagefale
Damn... I really need 2nd stick of 16gb. I have 16gb of ddr5 4800 and 20 gigs of pagefile on nvme
Damn we’re really going to need to make that much solar
How much solar? 1 TW?
This isn’t hypothetical anymore
Rough approximation it will be 10 TW needed for 1M SPM
Not sure how much 20kspm uses, but at least 10-15x that i would guess
1 TW seems about right then yea
nope
As I remember 20k uses about 200 GW
Reminder: SA science should be much more power efficient due to the prod all over the place
Akara is waiting for region cloner to do the job
This is a benchmark of your OS more than anything haha
Kovarex is measuring researched
you see the problem :P
That could mean 1 SPM
I am sorry. what is this? What base is this?
It was the Eternity Cluster run
I still wonder why cannot multiple surfaces be computed in multithread
I agree it seems more clean cut doing that deterministically, but it needs to the built that way from the get go
1.72GB save file of that world..

Also, you own a dedicated server. May I know which one?
🫠 fine, I guess I am satisfied with that. Hope everything is working flawlessly
Attempt has failed miserably as I've used about 32 gigs of ram only for Factorio, and it is still not done
There was no need to differentiate the two before. I expect "science produced" to replace "science packs produced" after the release.
Qual doesn't increase the power consumption, so I think it will be much lower in SA
I wonder how will the power sources in Fulgora and Gleba affect UPS
Quality does not, but the fancy new machines are definitely much more power hungry.
More specifically I think it'll be lower relative to your production
