The latest blender guru donut tutorial series is amazing! Took me from knowing nothing about blender to being capable of working on small things 🔥
Thank you! That's a lot to go on.
My other question would be for items. Looking at existing mods, it looks like there are specific layouts for the item graphics, but I haven't found an explanation yet. Do people do 3D modelling for the items?
The multiple different copies of icons, at different sizes? Those are called mipmaps
You don’t need to do that yourself though, just provide a single 64x64 icon and it will be fine
Certainly all ‘proper’ icons are 3D modelled too, yes
and if you want variants of item visualisation, let's say on belts, then items have a separate property called pictures, where you can define those variations, although fully optional. There is not a lot of mods that use this property (example would be krastorio2: rare metals)
Like how ores are implemented in the base game?
ore variation is a story in itself.
they use 'animation' for the stages.
That’s ore entities
Yes, ore items on belts use variations defined in ‘pictures’
wait vanilla ores have belt variations?
Yes
never noticed 😅
Inserters are now smarter Twinsen A few days ago I was investigating a rather minor bug report related to "Rotational Asymmetry in Belt/Inserter interactions" (aka Inserter was not behaving identically when rotated). This was a classic case of floating point equality comparison. The Inserter would move it's arm and then it would pick up the ...
They didn’t use to
But it improved them so much
