we originally had one, but decided to remove it just to see if it was really necessary. how much slowmode would have signified to you that information? just any at all?
Slowmode would also apply to threads in the channel
that's true, I forgot about that
threads can be modified to not have slowmode, but that would mean having to do it every single time which is less than ideal
i usually see discords have a bot that auto-creates a thread on every new message in these kinds of channels, so that could also set/unset the slowmode
I mean we have multiple people who know how to make/use bots on the moderation team, so that's not really an issue
we just don't want to have the server be too dependent on bots, so we try to keep the number that we have pretty low
also auto creating threads wouldn't work too well here because not every message needs a thread
yeah, fair
If you guys figure out a good way to do this we would love to know about it too on the SE discord ๐
I've had one idea where every time someone sends something a bot sends a message after it, and also deletes the message it sent before, effectively keeping a message at the bottom of the channel at all times
We've just added a slightly different approach - when a message is sent in the channel and it contains text, it will auto reply with a message that tells you to respond in #mod-dev-showcase or make a thread, and will be deleted 30 seconds after it is sent. Unfortunately, there's no way to detect media attachments using the bot currently, so this is as good as it gets, but I would rather have false positives than false negatives. I'll make it send an example here in a second, just so you can see what it looks like.
oh god it works in threads
ahahahaha @queen kettle
oh god, oh no. I've not looked at how it works, do you think there's anything that can be done about that? ๐ค
I don't think so, I don't see any options in the automation to ignore threads
I can give it a decently long cooldown though
That reduces the issue at least, yea. Unfortunately still clunky
Now let's hope nobody has a conversation in a thread while someone posts in #mod-dev-discussion causing the main channel not to get the message at all ๐
Oh hm, that'd be worth testing, is it a cooldown per thread/channel or is it global for all the threads under that channel
good point
also I can't make it send a message in a thread, so I'll just take a screenshot
hahaha
