I guess gucci works as a name

cloud light
#

Gucci indeed.

#

So tell me your plan / intentions here.

hushed crow
#

a single building (or series of buildings) that have a small power range (1-3 tiles) but with no wire connections. they run off of different fuels, and act like one-off power stations. good for early game or outposts. can also be used for backup power or separate electricity networks when needed.

local burner generator station

cloud light
#

Generator. I imagine input=fuel, output=electricit-----aha there it is

hushed crow
#

think like a substation plus burner generator in one

cloud light
#

Alright. Solid fuels or fluid?

#

Or both (meaning a nondescript design)

hushed crow
#

The original idea was for items, but we could have a fluid burning generator as well

cloud light
#

I could include a tiny reservoir and some tubes as part of the design. Helps sell the vibe in that case.

#

You mention it small and meant for outposts. Maybe it could have a metal cage of sorts around it, for transportation?

hushed crow
#

You could also do one that is like a mini steam turbine and boiler, have it take water as input as well

cloud light
#

This kind of cage

#

๐Ÿค” might not look too great if it is a small building.

hushed crow
#

Probably best for a 2x2 entity

#

Maybe have it set on a "platform" of sorts so it looks more temporary?

cloud light
#

So, prompt is "fluid-based energy generator, early science tech, somewhat crude, 2x2 or 3x3"

hushed crow
#

Fluid and solid fuel both work. Other than that, seems good

cloud light
#

So its a multipurpose "if it burns, it goes in" machine.

#

Like most boilers or engines.

hushed crow
#

Fluid would require oil, so about that point tech wise. Solid fuel would be anywhere from red to blue sci

#

Im saying you don't need to stick to one or the other unless you find a design that fits one better

cloud light
#

Maybe the design includes input valves from the start.

hushed crow
#

Sure

cloud light
#

You have no use for them early on, but can just hook up fluid later.

hushed crow
#

Ah i see

cloud light
#

Like assembler2's

#

Technically they can take fluids, before you actually have oil

hushed crow
#

Lemme check something

#

I think you can make it similar to assembly machines where sometimes the fluid connection is there and sometimes it isn't

#

So yeah, that works

cloud light
#

Alrighty.

#

It's 00:35 AM over here, so i should probably get some sleep. I'll send you some sketches before lunch, some iterations on the design to possibly go for.

hushed crow
#

Dont let me keep you up lol

#

GMT-7 over here, you?

cloud light
#

Gmt+1. Portugal ๐Ÿ‡ต๐Ÿ‡น

#

You?

hushed crow
#

Arizona, USA

cloud light
hushed crow
#

Those look amazing

#

I would be happy with any of those designs

cloud light
#

is there any in particular you'd like me to develop further?

hushed crow
#

Not really

#

If you want to develop them further thats fine with me

cloud light
#

I think #3 stands out a bit, most early-game buildings are very boxy.

#

might be a good pick, it'd for sure not get confused for a steel furnace or something like that.

#

#1 has a prominently visible cog that spins - not a very common element either.

hushed crow
#

I think #4 is very visually different, especially with the single vertical view and boxy smokestack

#

It looks very homemade

cloud light
#

that was more or less the plan - but I fear it clashes with steel furnaces too much. silhouette-wise.

#

could give a redesign to address that, though.

hushed crow
#

I think a different outline would probably solve that problem

#

either more square or more abstract

cloud light
#

yep

#

that pipe on the top was there for that reason

cloud light
#

B U R N E R

#

it burns

hushed crow
#

Mmmmmmm

#

Dirty

cloud light
#

my favorite design so far.

#

moving pistons!

hushed crow
#

That looks nice

cloud light
#

improved #1.

cloud light
#

generators...

#

here, there, everywhere....

cloud light
#

#1, no upper wheel.

#

#1, added a chimney.

#

#2, removed support cage and added a little more detail to the engine.

#

#2, removed engine in favor of a more symmetrical design.

#

#2, the return of support cages.

#

#3, "heavy". previous version barely touched the ground. this one is meant to look heavier and more permanent.

#

#3. engine block made smaller. pistons can go higher. more angulous silhouette.

#

these three are my current bets.

cloud light
#

@hushed crow

#

I'm going to need you to pick a design at some point so that I can move forward with turning it into something you can add to the game ^^

hushed crow
#

Let's go with design #3

cloud light
hushed crow
#

I like the thicker engine block of the upper one, but i think slightly lower is fine

cloud light
#

upper it is

cloud light
#

Any thoughts on color, or do we go with a similar palette to early game ish T1Assemblers / steel furnaces?

cloud light
hushed crow
#

Most likely t1

cloud light
#

@hushed crow

hushed crow
#

What about it

cloud light
#

I'd say this is done. anything to change about the design?

hushed crow
#

Maybe a sort of hatch on the cylinder to input fuel

#

And i think the exhaust needs to be a bit bigger. Unless im misunderstanding how big this machine is

cloud light
#

I'll adjust the exhaust and the hatch in the final result

#

in general - overal shape, elements, does this work for you?

hushed crow
#

Yes

#

How big are you thinking this is

cloud light
#

a 2x3? boiler sized?

hushed crow
#

Seems good

cloud light
#

Hi hi!

#

I'm currently tackling the supposed asset. this is my first time doing something for use in factorio, so it may have some setbacks ;_; but I'm trying to stick to Factorio's vibe as much as possible.

#

I'm kind of done so far with the 3D model - planning to set the camera up correctly and pose it to fit the N S E W views in the right size.

#

I made the exhaust bigger, as suggested!

#

I intend to get the sprite done tomorrow

hushed crow
#

Looks good

#

A note: unless its oblong or has fluid inputs, only one sprite is required

#

I do love the radiator detail on the side

cloud light
hushed crow
#

Oh right

cloud light
#

or are you treating it like the 2x3 smelters, which only have one sprite

hushed crow
#

No, both

cloud light
#

that's an option ofc

#

but if anything we could stick to just one front and one side

hushed crow
#

Yeah that would be best

cloud light
#

groovy

#

you'll also need the flame animation I imagine

hushed crow
#

Just for the front facing sprite i think

cloud light
#

here's the side, I still need to give it some touchups

#

but it's 1:1 to boiler

hushed crow
#

Wdym 1:1?

cloud light
#

Same exact scale, same exact image file size in width and height

hushed crow
#

Ah i see

cloud light
#

almost finished #2

#

@hushed crow

hushed crow
#

Looks good

cloud light
#

useable?

#

could you give it a try / test it?

hushed crow
#

Ill rig it up today

cloud light
#

I might need some direction regarding the animated bit

#

Ill look into how others were made

cloud light
#

lemme know how it looks like ^^

#

in case I need to edit stuff

hushed crow
#

Im gonna have to do it tomorrow

#

IRL stuff is catching up to me

cloud light
#

๐Ÿ‘€

hushed crow
#

The lines seem a bit harsh, but the rest of it looks good.

#

@cloud light ^^

cloud light
#

I see

#

๐Ÿค”

#

the colors seem fine, but the game version has softer contrasts

#

it's also missing a little shadow

#

I'll have to retool a couple things, but I'm pretty sure this is saveable

hushed crow
#

Do you want a mod file so you can change the icons and see the effects in-game?

cloud light
#

I'm currently a bit tapped out on this - stuff came up IRL.
