So, I'm going on a trip this week and it'd be great if I could play Factorio on my deck. Those of you who do… what do your bindings look like? How have you set it up?

Factorio has a default console controls layout now

Same as the Switch mapping. See the Controls page on the Wiki, and I also have a rough draft of a control diagram in the "Controller Diagram/Cheat Sheet" question.

I gave that a shot the other day, and it was… fine. Not amazing, but fine.

It doesn't really take advantage of the deck's capabilities, though, so I'm hoping someone here has a really neat layout.

I actually found one, but it was customised to adapt M/KB controls, and my M/KB controls are weird and I don't want to adapt it (but I guess I might).

Having only played on the Switch, the control layout seems more natural to me.

I made a controller configuration a while ago that felt really nice, but it was for a bluetooth controller and it was way before controller was officially supported

#

the default controls are okay, but I recommend using a different layout

I just connected a m&k to the steam dock and play it on a table.

Then default PC settings

That kind of defeats the purpose of the steam deck. At that stage you might as well buy a laptop which has the mouse and keyboard part built in if you only plan to use it at a desk while on the go. Or a desktop which is more performance per cost if you plan to have the thing docked at the same desk constantly.

If you are using the steam deck in hand-held mode, which is one of the primary use-cases for the steam deck, then mouse and keyboard are not really an option. Which is where console controls help, even if they are less precise than keyboard and mouse.

So, actually the touch pads are great. I feel like the default controls do not make adequate use of them.

back when I played a bit on Steam Deck (which was before the controller support came) I used the community layout by Zirbs and that was pretty neat tbh

I may or may not have gotten sucked into MHR and not spent any time playing this on my deck…

But I was thinking about binding mining to RT instead of X. May not make much of a difference outside of the very early game though.

#

The inconvenience of using the right touchpad and using X to mine really jumped out at me.

If you want you can look through community layouts too as inspiration

Yeah, I grabbed one that looked promising. But my keybinds are janky so… it doesn't work. 😄

Oh yeah i dont recommend messing with the keybinds in factorio itself

#

It will just become a mess, steaminput can do everything factorio can do but better

No no, I changed them for playing with MKB lol.
