Hi,

I create my game few days ago, played a little bit each day, today there was apparently a patch for the game, and now my record is not available, i checked on steam and there is no way to not update the game if i want to launch it, and when i pressed "continue" there was no prompt that ask me if i wanted to convert my save to the new update.

So i guess my record for this game is forever gone, not a big deal, but i would really like to understand how to avoid this WITHOUT modding the game. ( Yeah i heard that there is mods that can record the game so i guess update would disable this )

Thanks 🙂

As long as you didn't overwrite it in the new version (or still have an autosave from the old version you can revert to) you can roll back Factorio by right clicking it in steam, clicking properties, and going to the betas tab. Just note this may erase your local (non-steam) achievements

I assume by "record" you're talking about the built-in replay feature. The reason it breaks on update is that the replay feature works by recording your input actions then simply replaying them. When the game updates, the input actions are no longer guaranteed to produce the correct results in the simulation, so the replay is invalidated. There is no way around it.

It's the same reason why smash bros. replays are deleted when you update - I assume that they use the same technique.

By contrast, mods record your game by taking screenshots at specific intervals. Those do not get deleted on update because they don't rely on input actions or determinism.
