#I have a question about tracks crossing.

these two trains won't crash, but this isn't particularly efficient, either. you want to have the intersection completely separated by signals from the other rails generally speaking
What do you mean
a rule of thumb with signals is chain signals entering and going through the intersection, and standard signals on the exits
basically, only have the intersection be purple
Do i not?
otherwise, a train that passes the intersection going to the right will keep blocking the other one trying to go up
How do i get the little part purple then
on the right
Where
Also no train is going to the right
Oh you meean
nrm
I thought you meant down right
ah, i see
Where do i place the other signal then
i'm on my phone right now so i can't really draw a diagram, but put it on the right exit of the intersection
think of a standard road intersection - you want those signals where the traffic lights would be
(this analogy doesn't really hold up any further than that though)
Should I remove my other two?
no, keep em
And do i need a rail train signal or just the normal one
Ok but the screenshot up above looks fine besides the one im missing
ok
I did it
But it still is the same color as before
Positon rather
@short mirage Is this one-way or two-way track?
Oh hey its you again
its one way
Both the tracks you see are one way
I just dont want the event where they crash
Good, in that case simply chain signal before the intersection, rail signal after
Following the directions trains drive on that track, and always on the right, of course
what do you mean
Which part?
hold on let me send a screen shot
Does this look okay
I dont get how signals work
Do trains stop there if there are two?
For the diagonal track that's good, assuming trains move south to north
Ok
For the horizontal, repeat the same pattern
Follow the direction the trains move on that track, place a chain signal before the crossing and a rail signal after
Do i just want that little intersection purple?
The color is completely irrelevant
But
I cant
As long as the intersection is its own tiny block
Why?
What do you mean with that? Can you show it?
You have plenty of room for the signals. You don't need them as close as possible.
Like this?
The signals don't have to be right up against the crossing, having them a few tiles away is fine
Bruh i dont know how they work
You should probably find a tutorial...
I tried that
Thats why i came to the discord
Judging from your minimap, these are not one-way tracks...
If trains can only go from south to north, how do they get back to your base?
Yeah they are one way
Yeah find a tutorial on youtube there are many. for now. Place a signal on the north side of the horizontal track just to the right of the signal on the diagonal track.
Idk but it works
Does it?
Try getting on that train and have it drive a full cycle
ok
in automatic, not you driving it manually
Have you seen it go through its full schedule since you placed these signals?
They're two way tracks?
I dont think so
One goes down the other will go left or right
They wont be on the same track besides that intersection
Before you added the signals?
The diagnoal track will ONLY have trains going from North West to South East corret?
YEah it looks 2 way.
All the tracks I see on the minimap are 2-way
On the mini map.
Until they crash...
Anyway, with that clarified, back to step 1
To signal 2-way track, place pairs of chain signals on all 4 sides of the intersection
A pair being two signals exactly opposite of the track from each other
wait
wait wait
I just added two and it works now
what do you mean 4 sides of the intersection
And what does it matter if its chain signals or the other one
Putting rail signals on 2-way track causes deadlocks as soon as you have more than one train on that track
Ok but this worked just now
Take a gander at this setup:
I have exactly the same intersection and I can place 4. Mine are a few tiles away from the intersection.
also, I have 8 signals
2 per side of the intersection. This allows trains to travel both directions on both tracks.
Why?
Show
Too close. Pull them back
with the green
Nope
Nopw? your'e asking for help and nope?
Like this
Or more, it really doesn't matter
further.
How does it not matter
Even more than that. Take whatever amount of space you need
Dont you want it right therre
On the acute angles you need more space.
Absolutely does not matter at all
You could place them right near your stations if you wanted to
This??
That works, but use chain signals, not rail signals
But what if another train is there
Like after
Where?
You shouldn't, I'm just saying you could and it won't break
because what if another train is there after it leaves
Ok
But
but
hear me out
It turns your entire network except for the stations into a massive block that one train at a time can use.
Keep in mind you need 4 pairs, not 2
So you want me to add more?
2 per exit/entrance to the intersection.
I want exactly this
Oh that makes sense
8 chain signals, 4 pairs of 2, one pair on each side of the intersection
I was jsut going to ask about that
I need 4 pairs
because two trains are crossing
This
Wait thats an old one
'
Only 1 train is allowed in a block, If the intersection is occupied, the signals will stop another train from entering it.
The blocks are represented by the different colors when you hold a rail signal.
This is the right way to signal an intersection for 2 way tracks.
Got ya
well ,this intersection anyway.
This is the general solution, yes
