#What's this?

We're aware of ubot not working inside of threads, so the normal +faq command will not work for now.
Discord, or the Death of Lore

(From the Internet Archive «mascot».)
( see also discussion of the above : https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=35050858 )
suggestion that's implemented in KSP discord:
Pinned "simple questions" thread
Currently that would be #quick-questions, though if this takes off we could definitely do that instead
tbh we could turn most of the topic-specific channels into pinned threads if we really want to, though I have some concerns about moderating that
the factory must grow
I love this feature, I would totally vote to keep it, silo out converstions and have them available for people to find later.
Need to find out how to add them to Pins so they can be referenced if the conversation is valuable enough.
Yeah, so far this feature seems great. Conversation flows much more naturally when not stuffed in a single place.
It seems people are getting a little less reluctant to open new threads too.
US vs UK English... though tbh I tend to use a mix of both
trialling
Ok
This is like solder isn't it?
that's more pronunciation than spelling
Just pointing it out since lizzy dinged me on it before
Also in Britain it's Soulder ;)
Hey uhh super quick question
If I have a train base with lots of train stations with the same name (ex: iron plate input or iron plate output), and I have multiple trains with nowhere to go (because nothing needs fresh iron at the moment), and I then enable a station to request iron, will multiple trains try to go to it and kill each other?
Np, easy to get confused 🙂
So there's the #quick-questions
And then there's also the space that this question exists in, where you can add a question
But this is like a "meta question" where we are now
Like, the mods opened this to discuss the question/forum system as a whole, but if you want to create a post, then you need to navigate to #1104200321087066173 and click the bar at the top rather than coming here.
Does that make sense @vast badge ?
Just trying to make sure you get the most visibility
Yeah, in the KSP server they have a dedicated thread for quick questions
Yep that's #quick-questions
But there's also this place for longer ones so I can see how you got confused XD
To mark as answered what do you do?
Have to right click the post in the list, from there you should be able to edit tags
But I’m on mobile….
You can hold press your post for the same effect
Not really a fan of the popout format. Can you default to full page view?
What do you mean, exactly?
Ah, that's something you can set yourself
Settings -> Text & Images -> Open threads in split view
Much better. Thanks.
can also click the 3 dots at the top right
Or just... double click the title bar
Agreed. I'm very much on the retentionist side of the data preservation spectrum and I feel sad when I can't look back on a convo from 2 years ago because the channel it was in got locked as part of a server restructuring operation or whatever.
hello
I'm trying to use a decor mod for Factorio, but I've hit the ID limit. Is there anywhere I can see information on which mods are using how many tiles so I have more information for pruning purposes?
I simply wonder what brought you to put that message here, of all places
I'll guess Alien Biomes. Decorio and Alien biomes are not compatible, for that exact reason.
My apologies, I'm not that great with Discord.
Please do not hijack threads
sry
I have no idea... Why are you asking me?
The one in the crafter? Or the crafter?
Cause the one in the crafter I think is the vehicle deployer from AAI vehicles.
I think, not 100 percent sure.
equipment gantry
Please do not hijack this thread for random Factorio stuff though....
Is there a way to default this forum to list newest posts first rather than newest comment first.
It's startingto get old needing to swap it every time I open it
First time reviewing topics in here. I'm thinking that it's a bit chaotic in here in terms of what's being asked. Perhaps it should be 'curated' more? With commonly asked questions just moved here (with answers) locked, so that it grows into a FAQ.
discord "forum" is a pain. I don't know what they had in mind. In it's current state, it's ok if you want to discuss something and then forget that discussion.
If you do not keep track, you are lost
I'm not sure if this thread is for feedback.
If so, I'd like to say it helps a lot with my conversations not getting buried since #quick-questions and #vanilla-chat are both so busy nowadays that this can happen quite frequently.
If not apologies and I'll refrain from posting here again XD
i actually find it easier to keep track of discussions with forum channels
altho not being able to search through forums on mobile is a pain
I've asked over in #train-help but applying it to #combinators
Since many of the same sort of questions are repeated/re-asked, I'd like to put forward the radical idea of migrating some channels into stickied discussion "questions".
- #1104200321087066173 --> FAQ, locked
- #1104200321087066173 --> Train General
- #1104200321087066173 --> Combinator General
- Actual question threads
The goal is two-fold:
Signposting
By putting all questions & themed discussion in here, every newcomer sees the FAQ "question" up top, front and center, which should contain curated up-to-date info/screenshots/resources on very often asked questions pertaining to train signalling/combinators/belt logic, etc.
Scoping
Questions big and small aren't lost in a deluge, instead following a natural progression of being flaired, posted, answered, going stale, finally providing room for newer questions. The added bonus is that questions you post/participate in are subbed/are not lost or difficult to find.
How is this different from what we now have?
- Not much, and this is important since people don't like change. We still discuss as before, and people will still post their questions directly into the generals, no avoiding that, but they will always see the sticky first. Unlike the pins, which are hidden/tucked away.
- Also it is much more natural to start a question when you are already in the #1104200321087066173 area.
Is this just imagining a problem for the sake of solving it?
Likely, but there's an additional undeniable element of neatness of having better+scoped discussions all in one place.

hello, is there a way to face other players with our flying continents and board their ship to sink it like a pirate in space age ?
no
I'm on the second tutorial mission and I'm not sure what I'm missing - I'm trying to mine stone and it keeps telling me "Target Full". Thanks in advance
oh... never mind. You don't use the burner inserter to move from the drill to the belt.
This should go either in #quick-questions or #quick-questions.
To answer your question though:
(Burner) Drills attempt to place their output on the tile indicated by the yellow triangle.
If it's an empty tile, the item is dumped on the ground.
If it's a belt (and there's space available), the item is placed on the belt (the near lane to be specific).
If it's a crafting machine (and there's space available), it's placed in the appropriate ingredient slot. Same for chests with free space.
If none of that works, you get "Target full"
Long story short, it's more efficient to move the Burner Miner closer to the belt.
oh shoot, thank you - I honestly thought I was in the quick questions chat. My mistake. And thanks for answering
