My recommended quality of life mods

  • VehicleSnap - Helps driving.
  • RecipeBook - Tells you what an item is used for and how to make it. RecipeBook is a newer design, and has the awesome feature of alt-click on most things.
  • FactoryPlanner - Helps designing production chains. Quite complex to understand at start, but well worth it. Factory Planner is the newer and cleaner design.
  • TaskList - Handle tasks. Task List is the newer style, has subtasks and player/force options.
  • Module Inserter Simplified - Allows to insert modules with bots after buildings are already built.
  • RateCalculator - Select buildings in the world, and it will show their max input/output rates and how balanced they are with one another.
  • QuickItemSearch - Find items in inventory, ghosts, or logistic networks. Setting temp logistic requests.
  • PipeVisualizer - Highlights pipes of different fluids!
  • TapeLine - Calculate distances and design spaces
  • Bullet Trails - Nice trails for your bullets
  • Factory Search - Find stuff in your base! Buildings, items in chests, etc.
  • Remote Configuration - Lets you remotely reconfigure certain buildings (rather than copy-paste).
  • Belt Visualizer - Like pipe visualizer, but for belts. Also shows splits and sideloads.
  • Cursor Enhancements - Recall last built, automatic ghosts, scroll subgroups.
  • Filter Helper - Suggests filters for inserters, splitters, chests, wagons, etc according to neighboring items.
  • Connection Indicators - Shows colorful indicators on fluid connections, inserters, and miners to highlight misaligned or blocked connections. Shameless plug, written by me.

Useful QoL mods I haven’t used much yet

  • Power grid comb - Clean power poles!
  • Bottleneck Lite (or Bottleneck) - Shows if buildings are working
  • Train Groups - Groups trains so you can change schedules at once.

For Factorio 2.0, I'm still experimenting, and I'm hoping mod makers port some of the older mods, but here are a few interim mod recommendations.

https://mods.factorio.com/mod/CircuitNetworkItemsStackTo50 Circuit Network Items Stack to 50. Reverts one of the most annoying changes from Factorio 1.1 to 2, which is that they changed the stack size of power switch and speaker to 10.
https://mods.factorio.com/mod/RealisticDecorationCleanup Realistic Decoration Cleanup. No more grass on concrete. Removes decoratives under any tile or building that you or your bots build.
https://mods.factorio.com/mod/EditorExtensions Editor Extensions. Better cheat tools than what vanilla has for your sandbox experiments.
https://mods.factorio.com/mod/blueprint-sandboxes Blueprint sandboxes. Lets you do sandbox style tests without having to load a separate savefile.
https://mods.factorio.com/mod/BlueprintTools Blueprint Tools. Modify blueprints to add tiles under buildings. Less useful because Factorio 2 makes it easier to build landfill automatically, but if you like to have hazard concrete around your rails and ordinary concrete elsewhere for aesthetics then it's very useful.
https://mods.factorio.com/mod/FilterChests Filter Chests. Lets you set filter on inventory slots of chests just like cargo wagons work in vanilla. This is often more convenient than setting filters on inserters. It would be even more convenient if there was an easy way to set all filters of the chest to the same. Factorio 2 makes this easier than Factorio 1 vanilla because you can mouse drag a filter over all slots, but Factorio 1 had mods for that.

Mod settings let you customize what sizes are possible. During gameplay you create the large chests with a tool that unifies multiple chests placed next to each other, or blueprint an existing large chest.
https://mods.factorio.com/mod/aai-containers AAI Containers & Warehouses. Square-shaped large chests. Aren't as convenient as Merging Chests, but they look good.
https://mods.factorio.com/mod/aai-loaders AAI Loaders. New building to move a full belt of items into a chest or crafter or backwards. Operation costs a small amount of lubricant for balance.
https://mods.factorio.com/mod/underground-pipe-pack Advanced Fluid Handling. Custom underground belts. Useful both to transfer fluids long distance or to build more convenient factory builds involving fluids. Improved since Factorio 1 because the underground mini pump now has tiers. Still doesn't support hand-building over ghosts sadly.
https://mods.factorio.com/mod/rec-blue-plus Recursive Blueprints+. Automatically issue ghost construction or destruction commands using the circuit network.
https://mods.factorio.com/mod/First_One_Is_Free First One's Free. This is somewhat cheaty. One slot per item type doesn't take up place in your personal inventory. Useful with mods that add a lot of new different item types.

https://mods.factorio.com/mod/aai-signal-transmission AAI Signal Transmission. Send circuit signals remotely, even to/from space platforms, for a large power cost. Multiple frequencies that don't interfere with each other, unlike vanilla radars.
https://mods.factorio.com/mod/aai-programmable-vehicles AAI Programmable Vehicles. Automatically drive, load, unload road vehicles without needing player attention. There are a bunch of other AAI mods that add new road vehicles for both combat and utility.
https://mods.factorio.com/mod/informatron Informatron. Lets other mods add documentation entries accessible in-game. Apparently easier than using the vanilla tips and tricks for mod authors. Used by some AAI mods at least.

My current QoL and utility mods for 2.0 Space Age:
Tidy Menus - Sorts unsorted menu items
Platforms do not request full stacks of buildings - Extra items get sent back and the resources used are refunded
Customizable Quality Names - Rename qualities to whatever makes the most sense to you (I use Normal/Fair/Good/Excellent/Ideal)
Enable When - Changes "enable/disable" text to "enable when"
Filter Helper - Context aware quick select for inserter filters
Auto-Switch Techs - Reorders queued technologies if no science is available for the current tech
Copy Paste Modules - Modules can be copied between machines with shift-right-click and shift-click
Crafting Queue Enhancements - Queue new handcrafts to the front of the list, and related features
Auto Deconstruct - Drills without any resources left automatically get marked for deconstruction
Auto Manual Mode - Using movement controls in a train will automatically set it to manual mode
Automatic Underground Pipe Connectors - Automatically places connecting pipes
Quality Upgrade Planner - Bulk quality adjustment
Preserve Products Produced - Preserves "products finished" when upgrading

Agricultural tower placement helper - Indicates where special soils are needed when holding an agricultural tower
Notice me senpai - Indicates where mineral patches are when holding a mining drill
Ammo turrets have at least two ammo slots - Helps prevent warnings when using multiple ammo types/qualities
Visible Planets - Shows the planet in the background when in orbit
Diversitree - Tweaks planted trees to look more natural
Ultimate Research Queue - Queue any number of technologies and auto-queue prerequisites
Underground Indicators, Fixed - Shows max distance and paths for underground belts
Gradual Nuke Destruction - Damaged terrain spreads out from the point of impact
Mouse-over Construction - Eliminates the need to pipette ghosted entities before placing them
Belt Visualizer - Highlights connected belts

from the top pin, I would recommend updating Picker Dollies (1.1) to Even Pickier Dolloes (2.0) since the latter is the main compatible one, and mod portal search struggles to find.
