sudo dmesg | tail -20
btrfs corruption- idk how
yeah that should not exist right? it literally formats the device before installing
correct, so either your ssd is corrupted, or you installed an older version or you did an abnormal manual install
sorry, app didn't scroll down when i clicked in
i installed the one right before 3.30? i think
i installed the latest one when i installed omarchy
which wasl ike
uhh 3 weeks ago or something
3.3.2 is latest avail afaik.
i'd strongly recommend that one, reflash a usb for that iso and reinstall
i kept updating each update
also would you know how do i check if it's my ssd?
i actually can't open shit
so i can't google the commands
it's your box, if you can't open it idk what to tell you
i kinda don't want to unscrew my laptop at like 11 pm when i have an exam tomorrow
that's a choice you have to make on where to spend your time based on your life
well if you need your laptop and works for what you need during the exam... then put it off
ro isn't going to hurt it
i can always study on my phone but that'd be a pain in the ass
lol dawg fixing problems is a pain in the ass- you just have to decide what's worth your time and move forward with that
Might try the Checking Status and Scrub sections. Don't mess with rest of the page since you don't know what the underlying issue is yet.
https://blog.programster.org/btrfs-cheatsheet
typically when the fs remounts to ro, there is a hardware issue e.g. disk, controller, etc...
scrub won't be able to fix anything since it's in ro
if you decide to wipe and reinstall, after you backup whatever data you want to keep, try 'mount -o remount,rw /' then see if scrub fixes anything.
plz update this with resolved
I am also doing ssd checks doing smartctl
I don't believe it's resolved yet.
I still want to know why this happened
that's fine and all- but the omachy dev team tracks things that need their attention based on the tags.
You made a choice to reinstall and scrub, so your issue isn't there anymore- that's one less thing that they have to run through
or keep it here if you think its their job to ffigure it out for you
Aren't you a ray of sunshine
cheers- i'm fine stepping back from folks who don't want my help
If you actually tried reading what I said, you'd have known that I was running some tests to see if the problem was my ssd or if it was just the system having issues.
@lost gazelle i scrubbed and i am currently trying to do a weekly schedule to scrub automatically
would you say there is something else i should try to do? since i really couldn't find a reason as to why the errors were happening in the first place
what does smartctl say?
smartctl -A /dev/sdX
i'm a little fat happy and slow right now. just got back from sushi
seems pretty healthy
what coomand?
ahhyou kept saying ssd
i am using an ssd
nvme
just a hunch but 'Error Information Log Entries: ' should probably be 0
oh yeah that one was weird let me see which one it was
you cutoff the command. kind of helps to know what you're doing
your nvme might be getting ready croak
i thought that error was not that serious?
here's what a ssd looks like
spinner
if row 5 has anything that other than 0 in the raw_value column, prepare for disk failure
anywho, i would look at replacing your nvme
i'm probably wrong, seeing that error doesn't mean a whole lot. interesting.
yeah exactly
here again just in case i had a brainfart a while back
i don't get it though
it acts up like crazy
is there any chance there might be another hardware component shitting itself that may cause btrfs issues?
also the error "invalid field in command" is not a hardware thing from a quick google search
could be, maybe memory. most linux install isos have memtest in the grub menu. could fire that up on boot. doesn't touch data
if you catch it when it goes into ro, do 'dmesg | tail -50' or 'journalctl -n20 -f' to see the last 20 syslog entries and follow. ctrl+c to get out.
might be able to spot it
i see your buddy left? lol
that could be from power loss
oh matty?
lol yepper
yeah weirdo
i try to ignore him until he gets under my skin
could be seeing the unsafe shutdowns
right
how probable is it that btrfs was panicking because of the unsafe shutdowns?
shouldn't. i haven't had issues like that with btrfs
did you remount and run a scrub?
yes i did that after you told me a couple messages back
did scrub report any issues?
has it gone back to ro after the remount?
back then it did remount then went back after
but after reinstalling it seems fine for now
oh wow, so fresh system?
yeah i had to reinstall nothing worked
it used to happen before when i had fedora
and ubuntu before it
well that's a bummer. hopefully you don't see that happen again
welp thanks a lot for the help!
makes me think you have a hardware issue
np, run memtest when you can. might have a bad ram stick
btrfs is a cow fs. so copy on write with memory issues can cause problems.
yeah i've been doing that as we're speaking
haven't seen it with btrfs yet but have with zfs
the fact that i've never tested my ram yet
is mind boggling
so yeah it's failing
test one stick in at a time until you find the bad one and replace :(
Thanks a ton!
np, glad to help
if it has more than one stick and you figure out which stick, yank it and run with what's left until you get a new one
alright
