Some games are not working through steam. The two I've specifically had issues with are deadlock and Balatro. I've tried other games (death stranding, smite 2, resident evil 4 remake) and those run perfectly.
l've made sure all of my vulkan and nvidia dependencies/ drivers are installed and up to date. I've tried booting with proton experimental, proton hotfix, and proton 8-8.5.
What specifically happens is I will try to launch the game through steam, it says launching and running for a few seconds, and then stops like the game just closed itself out.
Anyone have any ideas? Help would be greatly appreciated.

are you using a discrete gpu?
I tried running deadlock with gamescope earlier and it worked

since balatro doesnt natively support linux and as u mentioned proton doesnt work either maybe try lutris
with lutris try to run the game using wine and see if it helps

I would say setup gamescope instead, its the recommended way to run games with hyprland anyway
