I feel like my computer isn't performing as well as it did when I was playing on Windows. For example: I've been playing ARC Raiders lately, and when I was playing on Windows (before I completely ditched Windows to switch to Linux), I was getting around 70-80 FPS in 4K with the default graphics settings (all options including ray tracing set to epic). Obviously, I had drops to 60 FPS, especially when there were fights or many elements in the area, but it usually stayed within the aforementioned range.
Now I barely reach 60 FPS. I've tried lowering everything to the minimum, and even then, the game struggles to reach 80 FPS. Does anyone know why this might be?

Also Big Picture mode is so laggy when making it fullscreen. Anyone know a solution to this?
Have you tried gaming on other Linux distros? There's a chance it's more an issue of fan speeds or drivers, rather than Omarchy itself. It would be worth it to look into if you have the best drivers for your GPU, your wattage is what it should be, and your fans are running at the right speeds.
What kind of rig are you running?
Well, Omarchy aint focused on gaming is it? You should use a gaming focused distro instead like bazzite or cachyos
It isn't focused on gaming, but it should still be able to perform reasonably well. Given that it's built on arch, it should just come down to installing/configuring the right packages, right? Isn't that all that Cachy is doing for you anyways?
No, it has a optimized kernel and it uses scx schedulers to improve your perfomance
Oh, that makes sense. Well, @next root, there's one option for you. You could swap over to another distro and bring your hyprland config with you (shoot, you could probably bring a lot of omarchy with you; you might even be able to install it on top of Cachy), or you can try and figure out what your bottleneck is.
When I switched my laptop over to linux, I realized that the current linux kernel doesn't actually support my fans, meaning I couldn't get them above 50%. That will probably get updated in future kernel releases, but for now I'm just kinda stuck on half power due to thermal throttling on linux
Maybe drivers but definetly not fan speed, my CPU doesn't go more than 50-50º while being on 60-70% and my GPU barely reaches 74º while on 100%. New build with new case, AIO and new fans so that's not it. I don't know about drivers since I though Omarchy downloaded them automatically.
And no, I haven't tried any other gaming distros but I prefer not to since I like Omarchy and has been my go to distro since this summer.
Not focused on gaming but still should be able to perform. As said in the manual, the best options are Steam and RetroArch and since I'm suing Steam it shouldn't be a problem. My build has a Ryzen 7 5800X and a 3070 Ti, just for reference, I know it's not the best build to play on 4k but I still got about 100fps on most game while gaming on Windows.
Did you maybe have frame gen or something along those lines on windows that you don't have on here?
Nope.
@next root did you solve it?
Nope
You are on Nvidia, you are going to take a performance hit no matter what on linux, compared to windows. but you will need to go to arch & hyprland wiki and look up possible optimizations for your set up. Omarchy isn't gaming focused, otherwise a more gaming focused distros as others have mentioned will be better. DHH himself has expressed you need to take time looking things up for YOUR use case. Hyprland itself states Nivida hradware is not officially supported. It works for many people but it may take tweaking
Do you have any distro recommendation? i love omarchy, I used to use i3 with debian before
cachy?
It is possible to layer omarchy on top of Cachy OS, possible their kernel tweaks might fair better OOB
DHH has made mention of that as well, he personally didnt see a bump in his use case but stated maybe for others it could
I see, i will do some research for the next week, right now i dont have time to move to another distro. thanks avi
Anytime options exist! Might just take a little reading.
try bazzite for gaming
i also have a nvidia gpu and havent had a issue with omarchy
so idk what your issue is
the only issue I have had with hyperland is that sometimes when moving a window it gets supper laggy(like 0.5fps) but i havent had that issue since the last update
Maybe refresh rate on the monitor settings?
Yep, I'm planning on buying a 9070 XT just for this. Still, I love Omarchy and even tho it's not focused on gaming I want it to be the distro I use, at least for some time. Thanks for your message tho!
Someone knows why Big Picture mode could be so laggy on full screen?
make sure your power profile is not balanced or something
Yep, already checked that.
@dusty tusk Omarchy is not a distro. It’s just dotfiles on Arch linux, which is a phenomenal gaming distro! It’s just as performant as Cachy (also arch) and better than bazzite. OP, do you have gamemode installed?
gamemode? i don't know what that is so I guess I don't. could you help me understand what this is and how could it help me?
Brooda, I know that it aint a distro. But saying that it is as performant in games as cachy is just a lie
Arch isjust as good… If Cachy was much better, more than a margin of error, I would run that on my gaming rig. But it isn’t!
It's Arch, so I mean you make it do whatever, it just might take some reading and commitment
Hello, I have the same issue as you, did gamemode really change something or have you find a fix, I would like to install the same config on my working computer (omarchy) than my personnal (windows), but i tried to play clair obscur, but the frame were low and input lag high. I tried before switching up to omarchy, and it was working pretty fine. It makes me question if i'm really gonna swap up to omarchy to my personnal setup
