#Blank screen after update

After I updated omarchy, I couldn't see my desktop and the omarchy keyboard shortcuts didn't work either. But I could still open the apps with their own shortcuts

sounds like walker/elephant crashed during the update. omarchy has built-in scripts to fix this.

try this:

  • press super + return (should open alacritty terminal)
  • or ctrl + alt + f3 to get to a tty login

once you're in a terminal, run:

# first, complete the update in case it got interrupted
omarchy-update-perform

# then restart walker and elephant
omarchy-restart-walker

# if that doesn't fix it, refresh walker config
omarchy-refresh-walker

# check if it's working now
# press super + space to test walker

if you still can't get a terminal:

  • ctrl + alt + f2 to switch to tty
  • login with your username/password
  • run the same commands above

which branch are you on? (master or dev?)

cat /etc/omarchy-release

the "elephant" error spam suggests walker 2.0 broke during the update. running omarchy-update-perform will finish any incomplete update steps, then the restart/refresh scripts will fix the broken services.

And also when I use
cat /etc/omarchy-release
It says no such file or directory exists

ok that's a kernel panic during boot. your system isn't even getting to a login screen, which is why you get a blank screen in TTY too.

before we dive into recovery, quick question: do you have any critical data or files on this install that you need to save? or is this a relatively fresh install where you'd be ok starting over?

if there's important data, we can walk you through chrooting from a live USB to backup your files and potentially repair the system. but honestly, if it's a newer install without critical data, a clean reinstall of omarchy might be faster and cleaner than trying to untangle whatever the interrupted update broke.

either way I'm happy to help, just want to know which path makes more sense for your situation.

if you do want to try recovery:

  1. boot from an arch/omarchy live USB
  2. we'll mount your encrypted drive
  3. chroot in and see if we can repair it
  4. worst case, backup your configs and data, then fresh install

let me know what you'd prefer to do.

I don't have a problem starting fresh it's just that , the last time I installed omarchy it was a very hard process mainly because I'm dual booting it with windows

I got same issue, but after I log into the Omarchy setup (blank screen after login). I can get a tty going, but the omarchy-update-perform doesn't work or any other omarchy command.

The walker failed to open display.
